I have my 68 SS all done runs and looks great the four speed shifts great but the 8.2 rear the guy before put in before I got the car to replace the original 12 bolt is shot. Here is my question: should I get the 8.5 I got laying in my garage rebuilt? I priced it at the Drivetrain shop here and they want close to 1150 parts and labor with using my old axles and then I have to have driveshaft shortened so Total cost maybe be over 1200+ without tax, or should I go for the Mosler 12 bolt for 1875 and not have to shorten shaft and maybe next year if I sell it maybe it will be worth more money with the Mosler as opposed to the 8.5 Anybody got any opinions? or have knowledge of the Mosler 12 bolt I see they have 3 different ones listed in Rick's cataloque I want to do this swap before it gets hot here this summer.
Thanks Edd

If it were mine, I would seek out an original 12 bolt. Not numbers matching, but at least correct. There's my 2 cents.

found some original 12 bolts but the cost getting a core and rebuiding them comes to more then a new Mosler and nothing in my drivetrain is original except the Radiator and Fan shroud the M20 is built by Cajun Jon it is correct one but not original The whole car has drivetrain and suspension upgrades so I thought maybe I should upgrade the final thing Well I will figure something out this week which way to go still open to Ideas Thanks for the input

It sounds like you are leaning toward the Moser 12 bolt already. This is a very good, strong rear end. It is stronger than the original 12 bolt. The 8.5 is good, but still a 10 bolt. If your car is suppose to have a 12 bolt then you might want to put one back in it.
