Well i finally got my wheels and tires mounted up. I still have to play with the stance a bit but, here are some pictures...20 in rear, 18 in front.http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c241/GNeumann/withwheels012.jpg

Love it...I know it will be too extreme for some, but this car stands out in a class all its own IMO-,especially in combination with that color. Bitchin'....well done! Would look even better with a rear disc brake kit... More pics please.... Also, give us wheel /tire sizes and backspace specs.

Look Very Cool! I really like it, but (yea you know there's always a but somewhere) I would prefer 17's up front and 18's in the rear. Just my $0.02.:D

Since you posed the question, hate it or love it, here's my opinion. It looks like you have a very beautiful Camaro there, except for the wheels and tire size. I think it would look much better with the same wheels in 15 inch. Old cars need sidewalls. Just my opinion. I support anyone doing to their cars what they like and not worring about what others think, but since you asked, I'll leave my opinion, and it's just that, my opinion.

I'm with 69x11, car looks great with that color and wheel but it looks like its riding on the rims, needs more sidewall i think..just my opin., some people really dig it but i like more tire on the side.

Love it, but, aka behold the underlying truth, think you might want to consider at least a 13" rear disc package. Fills up the open design wheels quite nicely. The car does look sleek, congrats on everything

The wheels are Intro Pentia's 18x7(18x8 actually) and 20x8.5(20x9.5) as for the backspacing, I have not measured them yet. when I talked to Dave at intro and told him what I wanted he was more than persistant on his backspacing specs. he hit it dead on. the tires are 225/40/18 and 255/35/20. thanks for the comments. as for those who dig the 15x8 "old school" style, here ya go with a before shot. here is an engine shot too for viewing pleasure. thanks for all the good reviews and opinions. oh ya, rear disks will be a later add on.

Very nice look. Does anyone have pictures of 18" on rear and 17" on front?

That really transforms the car. Now you'll need to fill those huge hoops up with some bigger brakes.

Feb 6th, 06, 03:13 PM
IMO, it looks good and will look even better once you get a big brake kit on the rear. I like the wheel size but the rear tire profile is a bit too low for me. I was thinking of doing 18"ft+19"rear. I don't like anything smaller than 17's unless you have a concours stocker.

Love it - Love it - Love it. Great choise! You said you want to play with the stance a little. I think the front is good maybe bring down the rear till the top of the wheel is at the fender lip like the front. For what it's worth if you're going to drive it the front is about as low as you can go and not go crazy trying to avoid every little bump. I know this look is not for everyone but I think if you bring the back down just a little to match where the tire is in the wheelwell with the front you nailed it! It's your car and your opinion is the only one that counts but you get my vote. Great choise of wheel and tire sizes! The front and rear tire sidewalls match perfect even if the sidewalls are a little short for some others taste. I hope your happy with it - the wheel/tire combo really compliment your car. Enjoy and watch those potholes. LOL.

I really like the look just the way it is. Great color (I think it's several shades darker than I picked), and the wheels and stance look fine.

That said, personally I have to have more sidewall because the fine PA roads woud tear my ol' vert to pieces if I had that little rubber meeting the road.

I think the wheels are an improvement (never liked the solid disc look myself) but I'd have picked a set of Ansen slots if it was mine...or maybe Rallys... So I'm pretty boring... However it's a stunning car either way! I'm actually torn between big brakes (drool) or actual sidewalls... I'll probably compromise with 16" wheels...enough sidewall to protect the rim and big enough for better brakes... But I'm rambling, nice car again!

Very very nice looking car! The wheels are so eye-catching that it's hard to vote against them, I'm sure every female in your path will be drooling...but I think they (the wheels, not the females) greatly detract from the Camaro stance and overall 'look'-- if it were my car I'd get them off immeditately, sell them to a teenager at a garage sale who has a Honda, and quickly put a set of rallys on, derby cap style. I wouldn't want to be seen even driving 4 blocks to the gas station with those wheels lol! (Yes I'm over 40 also).

Car is sweat, wheels are nice but way to big. I think the whole set up would have looked better with those wheels in 17 or 18's. right now it just looks silly with that much wheel in the back. But like I thought when I was buying wheels for mine, if you like them that is all that matters. None of us spent made or spent the money. Either way you have a very nice car.

Age has nothing to do with it. I'm under 40 and voted hate it. I love the style of the wheels (I don't care for the solid disc's either), just not the size. ut like I said, the owner is the only one who has to love it and wether or not I like it, I'll support people doing whatever they want to their cars with their money.

do you realize you have more sidewall in the front than the rear?
Ya, I realize that. My wheel and tire guy as well as pro-touring enthusiats all told me to put a 40 on the front and 35 in the rear. Old school is the complete opposite. That's probably why I didn't buy Mickey Thompsons. Those who can't stand my brake setup, don't worry, they will be on order very shortly. Oh ya, since a lot of you are talking about age, I am 20. And the guy that talked me into the 20 and 18 combo is almost 60yrs old. That young punk!

JV69z/28rs
Feb 8th, 06, 06:38 PM
I don't want to burst anyone's bubble here but the front tire does not have more side wall than the rear - the aspect ratios are different but because the sizes are different the sidewall heights are with in a .10" inch and I can't imagine anyone can see a .05"
front tire 225/40-18 - height is 25.1
rear tire 255/35-20 - height is 27.0
that's about as close to = as it gets without being the same width and aspect ratio. Not trying to be a know it all just relaying the specs.

I can't say that I love them or hate them. I am old school and old myself but I believe that you have the right to do with your car whatever you want to do. I do like the wheel design. Myself, I would not go over a 17" wheel on a 1st Gen. I don't knock the tuner guys. They can do what they want to their cars. I have seen some pretty sharp tuners. I enjoy anything automotive. One thing to remember is when you depart from the norm your resale value will drop because you have reduced your target audience. If you are not going to sell then have at it.

Love the car... the color is what I've been thinking of doing myself.
Love the wheels.
Hate the size.
Anything bigger than 18" on a First Gen. just doesn't look right to me... whether they're filled with disc brakes or not. I'm with the group that would have gone with 17"/18", or 17" all the way around.

Beautiful Camaro by the way!

Beautiful car.. not so beautiful wheels.. It catches your attention but takes away from the car.. Too much wheel can be overpowering and say.." look at my wheels." Thats kinda what I get when I see your car now. Rims are kinda like a tie that guys wear. You wouldnt wear a bright neon tie with your best suit. Rims are an accessory, they should not take away from the whole car, only compliment it.

20's on the rear look too big compared to the 18s for me. If they are going to be big they should be a slick in my book.

but if you like it..................... its your car........

I really, really like it. I had a heck of a time deciding whether to go with 18's or 20's on the back. Since I was spending $3K, I wanted to make the right decision. I ended up going with 18's on the front and back, but seeing your pictures make me think I may have made a mistake!

I think it looks bad ***! What color is that??? Is it 2002 Viper Grey??? If so my car is in the shop right now getting painted that color?? I am also going though it trying to decide on either 18's all the way around or 18/20's like yours. How does it hook up?? How is the ride??

The color is a custom mix and I don't know about the ride or hook up. I have yet to fire the engine. Soon, very very soon.

This is just a great looking car. I have seen other cars with big wheels and did'nt like them but this is a great combination. I think that the color and the wheels look perfect together. Your engine compartment looks great too. Hold on to this car as long as you can.

After reviewing the posts, I have a tendency to agree with the guys that would have stuck with something in the 17" range. The wheel package over powers the car. I let my subscription to Super Chevy lapse because off their leaning towards all the pro touring car. As one reader commented, the tires look like rubber bands stretched over wagon wheels. But......whatever blows your dress up. J.R.

My car is anything but pro-touring. You might want to check out pro-touring .com for a definition of what exactly constitutes "pro-touring."

As for my suspension I have QA1 coilovers up front and Hotchkis leafs in the back. I am going to have to put one inch lowering blocks in the rear to perfect ride height. Thinking about going with an Air shcok too for eay adjustments.

Here's my opinion. I'll try not to offend. I quess I'm just old school, but seeing the new larger wheels on a classic is like seeing someones grandmother in a mini skirt. It kinda makes me cringe.... The car is beautiful and I can tell you have spent lots of time and money to restore it and you should be proud of the work you have done. I do have a question for you. On a hard launch from a dead stop do you get any traction? Or do those (probably expensive) tires go up in smoke??? The way I look at it, if it don't make you go faster. you dont need it. Being close to being 50 years old myself I can remember when there where only 3 different after market wheels on the market. Craiger SS's, Keystones and slotted mags probably from J.C. whitneys. I guess I'm just getting old and set in my ways. As far as (Loving it or Hating it) Let's just say I'm getting used to it.

Apr 2nd, 06, 07:52 PM
To me they are a good, modern choice, but IMO 17/18's are the "spot-on" combo for the 1st gens concerning looks, ride, handling, traction.

But, as they say out with the old and in with the new. Don't get me wrong guys.... there is something special about a factory car with the right wheels even if they are 14's, but this car is a personalized custom build.

Car looks awesome...and the only opinion that matters is yours...but since you asked:

Too big in the rears.I have 18's on my Chevelle and that's about max...and that's a much larger car.

I just ordered 17x8 (4.75 b/s) American Racing 200S wheels for my '69 with 235/45's & 255/45's...and I think that is about max for these cars...maybe 18's in the rear.Anything bigger than that and it just looks "cartoon-ish" in my book...and I agree about the lack of sidewall too.

But hey,if you like it....
