I just tore the conv.top off my 69 SS and I'm going to restore the frame before I have a new top put on. While going thru some of the resto. catalogs I have seen some tension cables that are supposed to hold the sides down. I didn't find these when I took the old top off. My question is, is my car supposed to have these or not. Thanks Steve

Yes, all convertibles have them. It keeps the sides from flapping in the wind when the top is up and also keeps the sides flat against the top.

Funny that you mention those cables. When I bought my car ('69 conv), it had a pair of the 'torsion cables' in the trunk. I see why. The ones in the top are broken where they mount at the front, the cable has slipped out of the mounting 'tube'. Someone please give me directions on replacing them.
Thanks.

They fit thru the sides of the top that has the pocket sewn together. Its the full length of the top.

Thanks guys I guess I will have to order them. Any of you guys ever to try to install a top yourself. I have done vinyl tops before but they are just cut to fit and glued pretty easy really.

spb350: search the site. There's a difference of opinion on whether you should try replacing the top yourself. I will likely be forced to do it myself because I want to clean up/restore the hardware and need to replace all the seals.
