Hey everyone and anyone, is there anyone out there in the Seattle or Tacoma area that has a sandblaster that would be willing to help me out with blasting a few parts (seat frames, e-brake, and such)?? If not, does anyone know of a place in the area that does it cheap?
Been trying to talk the wife into buying one, but I have already been spending too much on the car. I don't want her to regret getting the car and try to make me get rid of it.
Thanks

If you're trying to buy one, that must mean you have a compressor already?
If you do, why not rent a blaster? Check around your local rental joints and see what they offer.

Good luck with the wife! smile.gif

If you have the compressor you can get one of the small sandblasters from any hardware store. I picked up a small one from Home Depot of all places for $25. It works great on small parts. Anything large like a subframe I farm out to a professional. Mainly because of the mess it creates.

By the way. Prepare the wife for the $20-$25K price tag you'll have by the time you're done. If she's going to kill you better get it over with.

Camrod67,

Like Ramcda I bought a 50 lb sandblaster at Sears for $40.00... Yes it's messy, but I blast in the driveway and just sweep the media into a pile and then shovel it up. I sweep the excess into the lawn and that's all there is to it. I have found that media type is pretty important to get anything done. But so far I've been able to blast all the suspension, subframe and firewall for about $7.00 worth of commercial grade contractors sand and about 30 hours worth of my time.

Best of luck,
Tom

Tom,

What size compressor do you use to blast? I got that Sears "sand holder" also and it kills my 6hp 30gal. compressor.
Is the blaster you're talking about from Sears just the black plastic bin with a hose and gun?
I've been buying commercial grade sand at like Home Depot or Lowes at $4 a bag or something like that. It took me FOREVER to blast my subframe. How did you get away with only using $7 worth of media for all that you had to blast?!?! I went through 5 sixty pound bags or something like that.

I have been using the same media for years. I don't blast often but I lay a tarp down and blast on it. Then shovel it back in through a screen. Works great. 95% lands on the tarp. One 50 lb bag has lasted years in fact I am now just down to what is in the tank so I can still go a couple more times easy.

I have a 6.5hp compressor with a 60 gallon tank and have no problems keeping up with a Eastwood model 110 blaster. It flows 11.5 cfm at 90 psi. Have a local hardware store that sells sand for sand blasting, comes in grits 60 to 150 and sells a 100 lb. bag for $6.20. Just did 4 15" rims for a friend, use 1 100 lb. bag of 120 grit for the 4 rims. I blast in the back yard and am slowly filling in the low spots with sand.

I used to let it just go in the backyard but the cats sorta.... well, you know.
Now I blast on a tarp.
