i have a spare T5 im rebuilding and when i took the cover off i noticed that my shift fork were cracked so i replaced them. then i took another look at the tranny and the input/output shaft bearing races spin. so id like to know if the races are pressed in or do they just drop in? cuz my whole tail shaft moves A LOT.

You need a .001" to .005" preload on your mainshaft assembly. The shims are located in the front bearing retainer, under the bearing race. This could be why you have excessive mainshaft wobble?

You will need a dial indicator to do this procedure and a selective shim kit.

thanks for the information but are the races just drop in tranny case and does the preload hold them tight.

Yes, the front and rear mainshaft bearing races "drop in" as you word it. The preload on them will keep them stationary.
