what is iinvolved in changing from an L6 to a v8 350?
I was told only changing the engine mount and mount brackets the engine should drop right in with out any more mods. I have an auto pwrglide 2 speed trans.
Any help would be apreicate it
Thanks

not sure how it will bolt up to that transmission, but I did the 6 cylinder to a 350 swap and it is pretty straight forward. I had a 3 speed trans and went with a muncie 4 speed...everything including the drive shaft bolted right on. The bellhousing should be the same as far as the bolt pattern to the small block. Make sure you definetly replace the mounts and motor stands. How are all the bushings, tie rod ends, subframe mounts? What about your firewall, need paint? How about the steering gear box, maybe upgrade to a 3rd gen gear box? Also disc brake conversion...You may want to keep your eyes closed while you do it otherwise you may be looking at a frame off before you know it...which is what happened to me...This is definetly the place to be to walk you through it...

The powerglide toTH350 is a good and easy swap. The 350 will bolt right up to the L6 glide if you want to.

thanks for the info, I have the brand new engine in my garage, now on to search for a new trans TH350 any ideas as to where to find a good new one for a mild 350/325 hp?

Almost any local tranny shop should be able to hook you up with a rebuilt TH350 to handle that power level. I just called the guys I use, said I wanted a TH350 short tailshaft version for mild small block, and a week and $300 later it was mine. You don't really need anything fancy. You'll also need a TH350 flexplate and torque converter. Make sure you get the right flexplate for your engine. If it is newer, with the one piece rear main, I don't think your Glide flexplate would work anyway.
You can try using the throttle cable from the 6 on the V8. Some guys run them that way and they work fine. I swapped over to the V8 pedal and linkage, and filled the cable hole in the firewall.
The 6 and V8 engine wiring harness is different, because things are positioned differently. You can just reroute (may need to unwrap some wires from the bundle) and change terminals as needed. If the wiring is shaky anyway, a small block engine harness isn't too expensive.
If you're thinking of running a GM HEI distributor (large cap), do a search on here for HEI fit before you buy the motor mounts. I think the 307/327 mounts move the engine just the fraction of an inch needed to clear an HEI, while the 350 mounts sit closer to the firewall.
Don't worry about changing the springs unless you need to anyway. The small block doesn't weigh that much more, and some of the 6 cyl spring rates were actually stiffer than some of the V8 springs. You can just see what you get when you swap.
