I recently purchased a set of 990 big block rectangular port heads and took a close look at them today and see a crack in and around one of the water ports Is this repairable

wick,
Depends on exactly where the crack is and how far it goes. Next step would be to have the heads magnafluxed so you can see exactly what you have.

The crack is about an 1 1/2 long AND it goes center thru a water port. I was going to send a pic but you cannot receive email. I bought this in a packagr deal with a bunch of blocks and will cry if this is unusable. Any help has would be appreciated also this has 2.25 valves and would like some info there as well

Heads can be repaired by a competent machine shop that is certified in head repair (common in and around commercial truck repair, also marine fabricators will have experience repairing cast nodular iron heads. the 2.25" valves should be the stock 3/8th stem flat (instead of tuliped) valves sold by TRW Many Moons Ago. Modern after market heads use 2.30" dia stainless-steel swirl polished 11/32" stem tuliped valves (mostly Manley) which improve flow quite a bit, while reducing over all weight (a major issue with man cover size valves).

Wick,
Just post the picture here, then we all can look at it. When you make a reply, go down to the bottom of the page and you will see "manage attachments" Nothing to it.
