Does anyone have any advice on removing the rear panel between the deck lid and rear window on a '69? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks fyrefighter103 Feb 16th, 06, 06:56 PM Just did my 68 the other night and it turned out nice. The way I started was with a cut off blade in my grinder. I cut along rear panel next to seams where the quarter panel is welded, being careful not to cut or damage the quarterpanel lip. I then cut along the top near the window and then below by the trunk weather strip channel. Be very careful not to cut too deep, as there is another body panel under the filler panel that you want to replace. You can then start to grind out the spot welds and remove the remaining metal. Once everything was clean and straight, test fit and make any adjustments. I drilled holes along the bottom lip on the new filler piece, this is where you can put your welds. Also drilled a couple of more holes on the side lips of the filler piece to be welded inside the trunk. Hope you are good at welding while standing on your head....lol. For the top, I chose to use automotive panel glue instead of drilling and welding. This stuff is as good as welding. You should check your trunk fit and window fit before doing anything permanent. Seam sealer along the joints will finish the project. Take your time and it should go good. Phil |
