So, I have a striped sub frame and am debating on whether to POR 15 it with gloss black or spend more money to powder coat it. I have several friends that say POR 15 lays on well and dries like glass and is very strong. Powder coating speaks for itself. Looking for some feedback. Thanks!!

They both have ups and downs, powdercoating is more expensive ,probably more durable but has 0 corrosion resistance.POR 15 is cheaper ,probably less durable and really should be topcoated .Everyone thinks it is a paint but its really a primer.Your choice really

I used POR-15 on my sub frame, it turn out pretty nice,, I have never had anything powder coated before , so I have nothing to compare it to,, I have seen some that use some sort of a black urethane paint before and it looked great... It does take some time to brush the whole frame with the POR-15,, you will have a few brush marks in the paint but it flows out pretty well over all.. If you decide to spray paint it on, you'd better have the right kind of respirator.. Paintdaddy is right, you should top coat it.. I did mine, and I used a brush, with the top coat you get a few more brush marks, and Like I said, it takes more time to brush it on..

I used POR-15 on upper and lower A-arms. It turned out OK and I was happy with the result. Then, I had the sub frame powder coated. It looks awesome. A future project will be to strip the POR-15 from the A-arms and have them powder coated.

I POR-15'd my subframe 4 years ago, no top coat, and it's held up well. Watch out for brake fluid as it is an excellent POR-15 remover! I like powder coating too and use it for other parts. You can touchup POR-15, not sure how to handle powder coat. If I had a pristine subframe and a reasonable priced local powder coater I would go that route.
