Hello Team Camaro forum.
I have one question , How would someone dearched the rear springs 1 and 1/2. I have a new set leaf springs for my 68. Do I remove a leaf?
Thanks Ray

I removed a leaf on my 5-leaf setup. It lowered the car and made it ride a tad softer, which is what I was after so I am happy with the result.

Of course, this is not the same as as actual "de-arching", but I have never had a spring de-arched.

You either have each leaf rolled to a different radius OR hammer each leaf flatter..

You can buy aluminum spacers to fit between the spring and spring perch. Just don't go over 1" thick on the spacer or it will encourage wheel hop.

You can hammer them flatter? I would advise against this, unless you were just joking around. Honestly, is the "hammering" just a process used by shops that dearch? I am looking to get mine dearched as well.

As far as I know, a good Professional Blacksmith can de-arch them using a hammer!!

AND my old Blacksmith Buddy from way back in Highschool back in the early '60's taught me how to do this using a 5 pound hammer and his 100/150(??) pound anvil!!

BUt more correctly is to roll them cold at a spring shop..

He also showed me how to make, draw and temper cold chisels out of a Model T axle and to cut a two man cross cut saw blade with a 3 pound hammer and cold chisel to make a corn knife!!

Yes, my old Blacksmith Buddy kinda took a shine to me after Dad died. He treated me like his son after his Son left home and went to work for McDonald D. in St. Louis after he got out of the Air Force.

I dated their niece some while in HS so knew his wife's sister well too... Both wonderful Ladies!!

He puffed up like a balloon the morning the old N&W (at that time) RR Tie Gang I started working on in April of '66 passed by within spitting distance of his Shop as he watched me working away and amounting to something.....
