Hi guys, Im in need of some assistance. In a recent post, I was informed that instead of repairing my current trunk filler panel, that a replacement would be a better idea. Ive decided to go that route, but now the question remains, how can I re-attach the new filler panel. I have a MIG welder, but, I thought these had to be spot welded in. (Im not much of a welder). Also, do I need to use gas when I MIG these things in or not? Ive called some of the local body shops hoping that I could take my car there and have them do the welding, but no one wants to help. Ive also decided to put on lower quarter patch panels. Any suggestions?
thanks,
James

Spot welds can be duplicated with a mig welder. You have to drill a hole in one the panels and use your mig welder to "fill" the hole...welding the two panels together.
Using a mig on sheetmetal, you will definitely want to use gas with it...works much better.
I've never actually put one of these panels on and I can't remember...are the trunk hinges fastened to it? If so, that will complicate matters.

the trunk hinges are not fastend to the filler panel. I guess I need to go and get a gas tank for my welder. THen practice on some scrap. Hope it works.

Guys
I just put one in on the 68 I am working on. But, I don't know how you will remove it without trashing out the top part or the rain gutter. Just take your time and cut 2 to 3 inches from the seams, that way you can see how they are attached, and keep removeing more from there till you are where it was origionally attached.
Thanks,David
