View Full Version : Shoulder Type Seat Belts in a 69 Camaro?
jweb4747 Feb 19th, 06, 11:31 AM I've owned this car for over 20 years and have often wondered if a later model shoulder type seat belt would work in a 69. Since it already has the mounting points in the roof, I thought it might work. Has anyone done this and if so, what belts did you use and how did you mount them? Thanks, Joe
morrisclassic Feb 19th, 06, 02:02 PM Joe we make 3-point retractable seatbelts for classic cars.
Direct bolt-in. Bolts in the factory mounting points. 66-73 Camaro,Nova, Firebird ,Chevelle. www.morrisclassicconcepts.com
davepl Feb 19th, 06, 05:33 PM I have the Morris units in my '69, and like them a lot and would recommend them. They don't look original, in particular the receiver part of th buckle looks a little out of place, but once you get past that its not too bad. If they could make them with the deluxe style GM chrome receiver, even if it didn't say GM, it'd be a nice improvement.
Definately a major safety upgrade!
68DaveV Apr 2nd, 06, 07:48 AM Just want to bump this thread. I'd also like to install a 3 point belt and if there was a late model car that's belt would work, I'm sure they could be picked up at a wrecking yard pretty cheap.
Also, do all 68's have the top mounting hole?
130fe Apr 2nd, 06, 08:20 AM Check out http://www.adfabdesign.com/Illusion/Interior%20Page/Interior.html . Camaroboy69 over at pro-touring.com and lateral-g.net used a complete 4th gen firebird interior in his 69. There are some good pictures on his site and he is very helpful when asked questions about it. I put these in mine 68: http://www.carguysoforange.com/ Ask for Joe. I got front and the rear set up. Have not put the rears in yet though. The morris belts are also said to be very nice. Either way you go, having a modern inertial reel type belt is a BIG improvement from the original type ones. Hope this helps you.
MickyT Apr 2nd, 06, 11:32 AM Im wondering about belts from a mid 80s G body. Anybody tried it or any other late model car or van?
jweb4747 May 21st, 07, 07:03 PM OK, What I get so far is that an aftermarket company makes some and someone used 4th generation belts. I don't want aftermarket so does anyone else know of any other GM retractables that will work? Doesn't seem to be many people interested in this or maybe the right people haven't seen this thread. It really seems strange to me that so many things I've asked about on this forum don't get many responses. Almost like I'm the only one that wants to try something new or different. Surely I can't be the only 1st generation owner that wants to install retractable, 3 point seat belts and wants to use GM belts. Guess I'll do like I always do...figure it out myself.
Mark Rossiter May 23rd, 07, 05:25 AM Sorry to hijack this thread, but - I was poking around inside the remains of a 69 shell in a junkyard this past weekend. The thing that really surprised me was that there were 3-point shoulder belts for the REAR SEAT pasengers. I've seen lots of front seat applications, but never for the rear. I would have removed them, but I couldn't see anyway to do that without cutting the roof open. They were GM belts, so I assume this was a factory option.

Yes, they were; RPO YA2, $23.00.
Qwank May 23rd, 07, 07:31 PM what about second gen seat belts? if i remember correctly the ones in my old 81 seemed like they would fit 1st gens.
68SSlemans May 24th, 07, 01:30 AM IMHO the factory optioned shoulder belts are a real safe way to drive. In my 68 i feel like a damn nascar driver with that thing on haha. It might be a little uncomfortable but it gets er done and you can't beat that factory look.
