View Full Version : Any clever ideas on where to mount additional gauges in a 69?
davepl Feb 19th, 06, 05:37 PM I want/need to add fuel pressure, boost, and possible AirFuelRatio gauges. I already have the stock console gauges, so can't add them there.
I haven't been able to find a-pillar pods for a '69 on Google. If anyone knows who carries them, please let me know!
I'd also love to hear other suggestions on where I could cleanly mount them. I think chrome gauge cups on the cowl went out with the mullet, so preferably in the interior!
Thanks,
Dave
DOUG G Feb 19th, 06, 05:55 PM I remember someone used an A-piller with pods from/for another car and only had to trim the bottom for a good fit.
Anyone else ?
1stGenJake69 Feb 19th, 06, 05:58 PM Someone here has put gauges in the opening for the ac vent!
Looks very unique, if angled right could be strategically good as well.
69 350 SS Feb 19th, 06, 06:25 PM On the cowl panel outside the car in chrome cups ?? That looks tough !
Not sure thats what you had in mind though ?
HwyStarJoe Feb 20th, 06, 07:05 AM If you don't have A/C, you can replace the dash pad with an A/C dash pad and fabricate a panel to fit into the hole where the center A/C vent goes. Three 2 1/16" gauges will fit in that area.
Joe G had pictures on a web site but the site is gone now.
The mustang pillar pod is supposed to fit, with a little trimming. I'm not sure which year(s) fit though. Do a search.
bearcat44 Feb 20th, 06, 07:16 AM I may be wrong but i heard the M@stang a-pillars fit pretty well with some minor tweaking. like i said thats just what i heard
shanekennedy Feb 21st, 06, 06:14 AM inside center console
RickD Feb 22nd, 06, 06:28 AM I used the mustang pod for two gauges - don't remember which model # but a search will find. I also made a two gauge panel from aluminum, covered with cherrywood contact paper and installed where the radio would be. Some day I may do the A/C dash pad install. That would be nice and clean.
davepl Feb 22nd, 06, 10:23 AM Thanks, I've ordered a double mustang pod.
In my Corvette, I was able to fit a single and a double for three gauges. Is there room in the Camaro to get away with three?

cudaman Apr 2nd, 06, 08:33 PM Are you guys talking about the dash-mounted pod or the pillar mount for the mustang? If it's the pillar mount, does it entirely replace the pillar molding or is it just big enough for the gauges and goes over the existing piece? I've seen the smaller pillar mount and doubt it would look right.
RickD Apr 3rd, 06, 05:46 AM The dual gauge pod I used goes over the pillar pad and looks fine, to me. Also makes the gauges easy to read.
RandyB.. Apr 3rd, 06, 05:10 PM Summit is now selling a single and dbl pillar set up for camaros.

cudaman Apr 5th, 06, 04:50 PM I checked with two different people at Summit today and they both said they sell no such piece for 69 camaros. They do, however, sell a 4 gauge pod for the stock console.
importkiller69ss Apr 5th, 06, 04:54 PM i am making a pod similar to the one in year ones 69 camaro...i put the 4th gen console and am making a peice to blend form the dash to the console to house my 4 autometer gauges
cudaman Apr 6th, 06, 04:20 PM Is the pillar pod for the mustang for 94-02, or the earlier fox bodies? I got the Autometer one from Summit for the 94-02 and it doesn't really fit as well as people in these threads indicate. This leaves me wondering if I have the correct one. Looking at picture of these for the fox body looks as if it might fit the shape of the camaro's pillar better, but I don't really know.
clwilcox33 Apr 6th, 06, 05:00 PM Summit Racing carries the correct pods you need. They are made for the 79-93 Mustang and need a very small amount of messaging to make them fit right but look great.

cudaman Apr 6th, 06, 06:04 PM So it is the piece for the fox body. No wonder mine doesn't fit. Thanks a whole bunch.
