buds396 Feb 21st, 06, 07:06 AM I believe the car will be built like it was unveiled. The car as shown was ready for production except for Air Bags and EPA approvals.
I agree there will be some minor changes but overall nothing major. I don't know if the 21" and 22" tires are gong to make production and for sure the production model will not be made of fiberglass.

tjlarge Mar 6th, 06, 11:19 PM My 2 cents as an insider - I would guess it has a very good chance of looking a lot like it does in concept. I say this because: (and definately not because I actually know..)
> It's been through the studios- (although I don't know much about the styling status - I'm an engine guy these days - but have worked with the studios before).
> Bringing back the Camaro is not something GM just dreamed up a few weeks before its unveiling !!
> It appears that a lot of work was put in up front as evidenced by the appearance deemed by many as "production like" - not wild and crazy like the majority of concepts.
> Lots of styling sketches
> Beautifully rendered virtual photos - which means it exists entirely in math data - a time consuming and much needed item to go to production.
> If the rumors regarding an '09 intro are true - there's NO WAY they're gonna make it if they have to restyle the thing first.
This concept car certainly does not have the signature of a skunkswork type of project !!
The engineers will likely tear the interior to shreds because nothing ever packages straight out of the studio (radios, ductwork, airbags, etc) - so don't fall in love with the interior - not yet anyways.
As an engine guy I have heard - um - rumors - regarding plans for powertrains. All I can really say is that they want to keep the performance heritage alive !!! Does everyone realize that GM has in production today (ie: Z06 Corvette) a motor that would make a meaningful ZL-1 (V8, aluminum, 427 cu-in) return possible ? Would that be awesome or what ? (oh damn - I just soiled my pants - again :p )
Finally - I must echo (and confirm) the company headline: This car is still stuck in the planning stages and production approval is not gauranteed !! (so I can only share my observations based on public info...)
ztoy Mar 7th, 06, 05:45 AM Bring it on!!! Just make it affordable for us common folk!!
MrDanB Mar 7th, 06, 12:04 PM I'm ready for the new Camaro! It's hard to please the majority, let alone the naysayers. I'm confident it will be made, it's just a matter of when+ how much will it change? And I agree about the original post making a fella need some advil...

hehe - don't count on it..... plenty of room in the garage for another camaro !!
And yes I've driven most of the newer sports cars (Z06's, Vipers, XLR's, etc) but I suspect many people here could agree that driving a first gen Camaro is more about preserving an icon than 0-60 times or ultra-refinement. It's a different kind of high !!

So what do you think they will do with the Prototype after the mods are made and put into production?
68bbconv Mar 10th, 06, 04:23 AM If they build a hugger orange car I am buying one.
tjlarge Mar 10th, 06, 11:08 AM So what do you think they will do with the Prototype after the mods are made and put into production?
The concept car(s) will likely wind up in the GM Heritage Center in Sterling Heights, MI. This is a corporate repository of cars and concepts throughout GM's history - a tidbit of info about is here:
http://www.gm.com/company/gmability/workplace/100_news/120_news/heritage_center_060304.html
It's a cool place to visit.... unfortunately I do not believe they offer public tours on a regular basis.
If it doesn't go here it could be crushed and sold as scrap metal !! Although I have seen concept cars get sold to private parties - but usually not until after 10-30 yrs go by....
On another note - how many concept cars are there - I saw a silver one at the Detroit Auto Show and a red one at the Detroit Autorama ?? Is it the same car repainted or a second copy - anyone know ??
OverAnxious Mar 10th, 06, 11:28 AM The red car that was at the Autorama is clay, not a real car.
The Heritage Center Tom mentioned above is a great place! I was able to attend the open house, here are some pics (http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=4285853485&code=21080159&mode=invite&DCMP=isc-email-AlbumInvite)
*update* I am not 100% the red car is clay, but it is not an actual vehicle. There is no interior, handles, etc. It's all a lifesize model.
It did look like every other clay showcar I saw at GM Design
:D
68bbconv Mar 11th, 06, 06:52 AM The red one is coming to Carlisle for the GM/Camaro Nationals.

Let's hope the design changes from the prototype.

Hi
The company that I work for was just awarded the Instrument panel and console, If you build it they will come and though I can't say what it looks like,I will be waiting in line. I may have to wait away because I what the one that will be that will be walking a_ _ on the GT500

lortsie Oct 31st, 06, 09:23 AM Oy! Talk about unreadable ^^^
I think it will be pretty lose to the concept. The interior and typical things like wheel/tire sizes will be different - but the things that appeal to me will stay the same and that's what's important :)
Oh, and 96 bottles of beer on the wall, 96 bottles of beer!!! Take one down, pass it around, 96 bottles of beer on the wall!
zdld17 Oct 31st, 06, 06:16 PM Two weeks ago I was on I-10 north bound coming out of San Antonio, on the south bound lane, I saw a car like the new Camaro concept. Silver , wide grin grille, tall wheels, in the midst of traffic and I did as many double takes to get a rear view. I could have sworn I saw one. Maybe it was the Caddy? Saturn View? , But it was the concept style. It was early and I was not drinking. I have seen strange cars out with the license tag from Detroit stamped "manufacturer" before. Just wondering if someone lives in that area?
tjlarge Nov 7th, 06, 08:45 PM DoubleD - I drive GM's Proving Ground tracks in Milford, Michigan almost every day and I still get a chill up my spine every time a silver Caddy XLR comes into view from afar thinking it might be a Camaro proto - but it always turns into an XLR and not the Camaro..... grrr. From a distance they are quite similar looking.....
I think I can say with high confidence that you "might" have seen the concept camaro on the road - but you will NOT see - unless HEAVILY camoflaged - a production intent Camaro on public roads until just before they hit the showrooms !! With this body style being all new - not a simple refresh - security is very very tight.
OverAnxious Nov 8th, 06, 05:48 AM From all of the pictures I have seen, the only time the silver car has been on the road around here it was flanked by other mfg cars and or police cars :D

Well... only paid members get to "manage attachments." It's a bandwidth thing, huge traffic, tens of thousands of members, and finite server space.
To join as a paid member, hit the "become a team member" link. it's cheap.

350splayedcaps Mar 10th, 07, 11:52 AM I don't think GM is headed in the right direction with the new camro. Yeah, I'll give them the outstanding performance that'll come out of this new car will be amazing. However, as far as the looks and muscle appeal goes....not a good thing. Yes, the concept camaor looks ok. However, it should be like the new challenger coming out. I mean, it should resemble the late 60's models. It doesn't have to be exactly like em' but it needs to resemble it's elders....as far as looks go! Anyone agree with me?

There is quite a bit of styling in common with the 1969 Camaro and the Concept car.
I would say the majority of automotive community would disagree with you by the reaction since the car was unveiled in January 2006 :D
CRASH69 Mar 14th, 07, 08:53 PM I think they'll screw it up, Theres only 1-69 And nothing will ever give us that WOW feeling again, The 69 camaro caught my eye at 3 years old and still catches my eye 35 years later. I MUST ALWAYS HAVE ONE IN MY POSSESION!...Crash
redfox Mar 14th, 07, 09:42 PM I also have a 1969 Camaro my favorite but i also think the new Camaro has some of the looks of the 1st. generation also i think the new Camaro looks alot better than the 4th. generation Camaro.
