We also replaced the original speedo/fuel guage with a 5" tach and speedo in the original housing. The mockup is looking very good. We should have the final install done next week. 67ptcamaro Feb 22nd, 06, 09:37 PM I just ordered mine today. Let see how much I have to cut. Altough I would keep the piece that I cut for future use, If I want to go original. Do you get to keep the ashtray or is there enough room for a stereo? MickyT Feb 23rd, 06, 07:43 PM Panel covers the heater controls, radio and ashtray locations. I am relocating a smaller set of heater controls and the stereo into a custom console. Midnight68 Feb 23rd, 06, 11:30 PM MickyT I am very curious where and what heater controls you are using. I am in the process of installing a covans center dash and I cannot figure out where to move my heater controls to. 67ptcamaro Feb 26th, 06, 11:05 PM So you can not cut out a opening for a stereo? MickyT Mar 1st, 06, 11:34 AM I am building a custom console that will rise up to meet the bottom of the center dash where the Covans piece ends. There is room vertically to install the heater controls and stereo in this area. I am going to use heater controls from a mid 80s G body as it is much smaller than the stock one - about the size of the stereo unit. 67pt you could cut the Covans piece in the lower part below the gauges however I think you would have some issues with the area behind where the ashtray used to live o install the stereo. I chose not to cut any original metal other than some very minor cutting in the area of the radio that can be easily rewelded. 67ptcamaro Mar 1st, 06, 10:45 PM MickyT, I understand now what you mean. I got my piece too. It looks beautifull with the gauges installed. |
