I would like some opinions on the authenticity of this car listed in the forum classifieds. Everything looks good to me but I would like some further insight. Does the stampings and trim tag look authentic (I know that this is a big problem now)? Is the price of this car in line with the current market? I have researched z/28's alot and think this is a pretty good deal but would like some other's feedback before I contact the owner. All the numbers appear to be in line with the build date. What do you guys think?

Trim tag is real, but looks like it is slightly early for the VIN range. Last Norwood 69' VIN in Feb was 607164. This one is 611XXX. Trim tag shows 2D, last week in Feb., but again thats a 4000 unit discrepancy IMO. This should have March cowl tag date IMO. Others may want to chime in, but it appears that this tag although close, may not have originally come on this car. Just my 2 cents...

611xxx VIN is fine for an 02D trim tag. The reported last VIN number for February that GM reported, and is commonly refered to in the table of VINs is wrong for February of 69 as it states Norwood only made about 5000 cars during February, but 19000 in March. Usually they were making about 12 to 14,000 each month.

Mark, Thanks for the clarification. Then it seems the VIN table is error prone. The VIN on one of my cars is 6369** with a 5A cowl tag. Does this jive?

According to the table the last April car was 637019. I've seen 05A built cars with VINs lower than yours, so I would say it does line up.

Thanks for the information guys. So, I am pretty confident that this car is the real deal as far as trim tag and engine stamp, what about price? Has anyone seen the car or looked at the photos in the ad (including the photobucket site) and have an opinion about the value of this car? I know as I have seen on here, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay, so I guess my question is would anyone else feel that this car is worth the asking price or close to it? I will go see the car before I make an offer, but I have not bought alot of cars before and don't want to overpay. I sure appreciate all the opinions I can get.

If you buy it, please remove the F*rd sticker from the fan shroud. Thanks. Mike

My biggest problem with the price is the color. I can't stand it when they think a car is still restored even though it has been modified, this makes it restified, not restored. To restore is to put back into original condition. For that kind of money, in my opinion, the car better be the original frost green with green interior. I'd haggle the price difference between the asking price and how much it would cost to fix the paint. Just my opinion, but if your going to represent it as a correct restored car, it better atleast match the trim tag.

As far as value...wow, who knows! I am just finishing a frame off and I can tell I wouldn't sell my car for 60k, no way. IMHO it is crazy to do a full resto on a car and paint it a non original color...Personally I like frost green alot ..in this price range you may want to be patient and keep looking..but ... you probably couldn't buy a Z , take it apart and put it back together with all the components rebuilt for that price.

ENP,
I was only replying to Bob's quote to show him that my car was close. I wasn't questioning his.

I appreciate all the responses. I have been away for a few days and could not post. I actually am a little different than most I guess, I like the fact that the car is hugger orange now instead of frost green, that color just is not my cup of tea. To me, the color change and interior change makes the car worth more just because it looks better. Just my opinion. I am going to contact owner and see what happens. Thanks alot for your help.
