is it just me or did a large amount of woodgrain dashes just hit the ebay market? there are at least 6 of them on there now with most of them fetching over $400.00. i guess with the price run up, people are pulling them off their cars and listing them on ebay.

You are correct, but $400 is cheap compared to the prices they bid to. Its very common for a nice Rosewood dash kit to fetch between $800-$1200! If you can snag a decent one for under $500, grab it fast..... KZ is our resident "wood" authority, maybe he will chime in here....

Are there after market woodgrain sheet stickers that are pre-cut that could be peeled & placed on a standard dash that would look good? If so, where can we get them?

no, im not in the market for one. i have a mint one in my 69 already. i sold a few sets about 2-3 years ago and they brought in good money at $200.00. i just seemed to notice that there is an large amount of them being sold on ebay. i troll ebay everyday and never have i seen soo many for sale at one time. if i had waited, i guess it would have been triple what i sold it for. i have seen the peel and stick woodgrain. this was also a while ago and i dont recall who was selling them. on line, the wood grain looked nice. i do not like the looks of the repro woodgrain and you can also tell they are repro by the looks of the grain.

Thus far , there is not a repro kit for the Rosewood. OER has promised them to me for 18 months now, but still no solid ETA. I've got four sets on backorder, so hope they arrive soon...

i ddnt realize they were not out yet. i thought they were already in production and in the market. the woodgrain that i was refering to was the look that they had on the repro steering wheel shrouds. i had ordered one and sent it back because in my opinion, they looked terrible.

I just bought one off ebay. Not a lot of options since my convertible had them, but were removed somewhere along the way. Is there a way to "freshen" them up a bit without ruining them? Anyone do any resto work on these?

They can be polished with light duty compound to remove scuffs and light scratches. If you need to touch up the color make sure you polish the entire piece before you start to make sure of a uniform color. After touch up you can clear the whole piece with a low gloss clear. This will hide the touch ups if done correctly. Some people will clear the parts without doing a good prep. If you do this you cannot remove any uneven coloring because it is now sealed under the clear.

The ash tray cover, glove box door, and the dash surround (a piece of sheet metal formed to fit around the ash tray and glove box door and wrap around the vent and corner of dash)

69cama, thanks for the info. What type of compond is best for this material? As for the touch-up, what would you use to fill in scratches or small marks in the woodgrain?

rusty,

that was factory for a 68. interesting enough is that some came with black ashtrays and others came with woodgrain from what i understand. on my 68 vert, it is black. my 68 has the style trim. as for the 69, it came with a woodgrain steering shroud, headlight area, two for the radio knobs, ashtray, glovebox, and the big woodgrain assembly that surrounds the ashray and glove box.

as far as freshening them up, i saw someone selling some woodgrain material some time ago. the grain looked good but cant seem to locate anymore.

I used a light duty polishing compound for paint, 3M brand. The scratches that are through the woodgrain matieral can be touched up with a laquer paint. You can get them mixed in different colors top match the woodgrain colors. I just use enough to color them then start the clearing process. Use light coats instead of one heavy coat. I practiced on the area under the grab bar plate to get the color right. Light scratches that are not through the color will disappear when cleared.

Thanks. As you suggested, I was going to do tests under the grab bar. On the clear, did you use regular paint, or something special for the material?

I used some PPG Concept clear with the low gloss additive. I used very light coats. Just try to dust the first coat, Dont get to carried away or it will run off in the floor. Good luck!
