DZ,
If there is any way possible, save the A/C, even if you don't plan to use it. I don't mean to tell you what to do with your car but I think you will appreciate having the A/C in the future. Just my opinion. No offense intended.

I'm looking at the expense aspect the car has none of the pieces for the a/c

It's your car and you can do whatever you want, but I wouldn't do it. For 129 bucks you can get a fiberglass A/C delete box and then you don't have to make any sheetmetal changes to the car.
Ebay auction for a A/C delete Box (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33548&item=2457308886)

You will have heat and defrost capability (assuming you have the inside ductwork) while still retaining future value of the car. You might want to do a search in the heating and cooling section on removing A/C to see what you are getting into before you start cutting things.

Here's a link on whats involved with removing A/C from a car. (http://www.camaros.net/cgi-bin/forum/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=19;t=000012;p=2)

Save all the parts you remove as they are worth a fair peice of change to someone else with A/C. Especially rare parts like the convertible Air dams outboard the ends of the core supports.

You'll need an AC delete box, I will be selling mine soon for cheap.(http://69camaro.nextmill.net/acdelete/) because I am switching to a VintageAir system instead. The ACDelete box is brand new, tested fitted and adjusted to fit properly. These AC Delete boxes don't come from the factory to fit the lower heater hose properly so you probably will have to cut away and resin it up a little to give a pathway for the lower heater hose.

Mark C, you mentioned air dams at the end of the core support. You also mentioned convertible, where they only used on covertible cars, or where they also used on coupes?

They are on coupes too, it's just that you can't find any for convertibles without mortgaging your house. Coupe ones are fairly common and come up on Ebay about once a month, convertible ones are rarer. I've only seen two sets of convertible ones on ebay over the past 4 years, one set went for about $700, the other went for about $80 becasue the seller described them wrong.

Coupe versions have an "X" shaped stiffener stamped in the middle of them and are rather flat. Convertible ones have 2 parallel horizontal stiffeners stamped into them and are curved to fit around the cocktail shakers.
And although convertible ones will fit on a coupe, coupe ones will not fit into a convertible because of presence of the cocktail shakers at the end of the core support.

I still need one convertible version for my car as I only have one.

Interesting, I learn something new about first gen's almost every day. If I ever run across them for a convertible i will let you know
