: Tranny Tunnel question

I did a search on this and didn't find much info. I am about to tackle a common problem that I'm sure most of you already have. Through the years, the goobers who had my 67, butchered the transmission tunnel. When I bought it, it had a TH350 with a B&M ratchet shifter. I'm putting in an M-22.
Sometime in the past someone had a manual tranny in it, so the tunnel has been patched and it looks like crap. My question is, does someone make a template, or have measurements for the original manual hole in the tunnel?
Any help is appreciated!

Racer #00 I went through the process of locating the shifter hole when I converted my car from a T350 to an M20. By searching the website I was able to find some dimensions taken off of other cars. They all proved to be off from my application.

The best way I found is to put the transmission in starting with the smallest hole possible to get the shifter stub through the floor. Put the shifter in and keep trimming until you can get into all gears. For the final hole use the trim ring for the shifter boot as a guide for the final hole.

I had a similar situation except I was installing a Richmond 5 speed in an automatic car. I ended up cutting out a fair chunk of the tunnel to clear out all the damage. Then I installed the trans with shifter right up thru the opening. I made a cardboard template that fit around the shifter and patched up the tunnel as well. I cut a patch out of an original quarter I tok off the car and formed it to fit with a hammer and various blocks of wood and my vise. I cleaned it up and repainted it and then riveted it into place. (welding would be better but I wasn't sure I was completely done in that part of the car) It worked great and the carpet covered it all up nicely.

Thanks guys! I know I'll probably have to trial fit everything. Right now it's got a welded patch, then an unpainted sheet metal patch on top of that from when they put the automatic back in. Everything is stripped out of the car now and I plan on painting the inside body color, so I want to make sure the hole is right before paint. Any suggestions on shifters?
