What size 14" wheels fit best on a 69 Camaro and with what backspacing?
I am looking at rims at Classic Industries and not sure which ones to buy.
Also, what tire size works best with these wheels to eliminate rubbing against the frame or fenders (especially in the front)?
Thanks

Are you really wanting to go with 14" rims or were you afraid the 15" would rub? If you pick the right tire size, you should be able to go with 15" rims without rubbing. Unless you are going for total originality, I'd go with 15" rims. Are you wanting all 4 tires to be the same size or are you looking to go skinny on the front and wider on the back? Just curious what look you are after so we can help.

Thanks for the response-
I have 15" ralleys on there now and even though I like the way they look, the tires rubbed the frame in the front so I installed wheel spacers and now they hit the fender- not good...
If I keep the wheels that I have, what I need to know is how to measure the wheels & backspacing and what size tires would fit best on these wheels once I find out what width & backspacing that I have...

What size tires do you have on now?
It sounds like the tires you have on are two tall or two wide.

I would suggest that you keep your 15" wheels and buy the correct size tire. The 15 x 7" ralley wheels should have a ~ 4" back space to fit correctly.

I have P225 70R15 tires on all 4 rims...
I am not sure if these are 7" rims or what the backspacing is...
How do I measure these two dimensions and what size tire would work best with these rims?
thanks

I am no expert in the wheel and tire sizes for these cars. I believe the original tires measured about 26.5" in diameter, and the 225 series shouldn't be too wide.
Check this link for good information on wheel size http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=33680

I have a 69 camaro with 15 x 7 inch rims, with 255 x 60x 15 rear, and 225 x 60 x 15 in the front with no rubbing problems. I tried 275 x 60 x 15 but they rubbed a little on the outer fenderwell. Hope this helps.

Isn't a 255 a wider & higher profile tire than a 225?
Maybe I need to measure the back spacing then- how is the dimension measured?

Yes. The 255 represents a tire that is 255 mm wide. For conversion purposes there are 25.4 mm in one inch, so a 255 mm wide tire is very close to 10 inches wide.
The links mentioned above clearly explain how to measure the wheels.

Thanks for all the help everbody!
That link: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=33680 has some really useful info with a little bit of measuring and calculating I can figure out what sort of tires to buy for my 15" ralley wheels.
