I am looking to install the chrome rain gutter and rocker panel moldings on my 69 to dress it up a bit.
From what I have read her, the quaility of the wheel well molding is pretty bad, GM or repo.
Has any one used the repo and GM stuff from the catalogs for the rain gutters? Can you give me some advice whether theh repo stuff is any good? Or the GM stuff for that matter.
Thanks
Joe

Joe, My experience has been that repro is by and large inferior to what GM puts out. Wheel opening moldings being the exception. I feel both could stand some improvement. For that reason, on a non-restored/concours car I would go with the repro. As for the drip rail molding I feel the GM is far superior to repro especially OER's stuff. Be careful and go slow when snapping on the drip rail molding as it's easy to tweek it and it's very hard to get back off without some sort of damage. BTW does your car have the quarter vents? The style trim group includes drip rail and rocker moldings, wheel opening moldings, quarter vents, bright accent trim on park lights and tail lights. did I miss anything?
Good luck,
John

John, I have no trim at all, except the Camaro and 396 emblems on the fenders.
I plan on adding the rocker trim, gutter trim and quarter vents. Since I have to buy everything, I was hoping the repo stuff would work.
I want to put wheel well moldings on as well, but I have rolled lips on the rear and am not sure I can attach them to anything. My front right tire rubs as well. I can't do anything with that until I re-center the subframe; it's off 1/2" to the right.
I like the clean, no-chrome look, but the more I see Camaros with the trim, the more I like it. Besides, Sharan says I need them!
Gotta keep the little woman happy. http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

Joe, Just curious. Does the right tire rub on the wheel well or just the bolt heads that attach it to the fender? As for the rear wheel opening moldings you might be able to trim part of the molding away where the fender is rolled if that section is not too long. A screw on each end even if you have to drill new holes should hold it. Just a thought. Saw where you read KevinW's post on repro stuff he just got. I agree with him for the most part but my experience with stuff like drip rail and wheel opening moldings have been a hit and miss affair. The OER molding I just bought for the rear of the hood on my daughter's '70 fit very well but it took alot of elbow grease to get it to shine (stainless but low quality). Go ahead and get the repro stuff just don't be afrraid to send it back if it doesn't look right when you open it up.
Good luck,
John
BTW Are you planning on coming over in July for the big Camaro Meet in Rohnert Park?

John, thanks for the advice.
My front pass side tire rubs on the well itself. Hits on the smooth part with the tire shoulder. Just enough to make noise, but no damage. The rearmost lower bolt has been removed for clearance. Plenty of room on the driver's side. Once I center the subframe, I should clear both sides fine.
I would like to come to the Rohnert Park meet. Do you have any more details yet?
Are you going to Pleasanton in June?

Joe, I talked with Dennis (DJD) and it looks like there will be a good turn out from the two clubs. (San Jose and Sacramento) We're planning a Camaro only cruise on Friday. About 60 miles round trip. Maybe some other fun stuff. I'm getting info on lodging, camping, restuarants etc and will post later. I'm going to Pleasanton on Sat AM but just to the swap meet. I have to leave by 9:00.
