: Where to get a radio

I bought a 67 Camaro convertible for my wife at the end of last year. The car has sat in storage all winter but now I am thinking about spring. The only thing that I don't like about the car is the after market radio. Where can I get a decent original AM/FM radio? I want to restore the car as best as possible.

Thanks, Joe

Big bucks for an original AM/FM. They are pretty rare. Ebay is probably you're best bet.

I've been thinking that a little later (70's) Delco AM/FM would fit and wouldn't look too out of place. Has anyone listening tried this? They are very plentyful (cheap) on e-pay.

Thanks

DrewBird,

I've thought the same thing. Only those that really 'know' like us will catch the year difference. I think its a good thing if ya can't get an original.

You can buy one from here ($400) - http://www.originalcarradios.com/Chevrolet.htm

What I did for my car ('69) is remove the original working AM radio and install a '70s vintage AM/FM that I picked up fairly cheap. I found a '70s vintage plug for the AM/FM and added some spade terminals to it to plug into my factory harness (the '69 radio plug is different than the '70 and up). It works fine and is a simple change back to the original AM if I ever sell the car.

That won't work since the '67/68 has the face on a slant. None of the later radios I've ever seen did. For $400, the radio linked above looks like a good deal.

I bought an am radio for my 69 from http://www.originalcarradios.com/Chevrolet.htm last year and it looked like brand new and worked like brand new. Their communication skills are great and seemed to be a class act! I would highly recommend them.

classicautosound makes replacement stereos. I just ordered the USA 6, am/fm 2 rca preouts 4x35 watts. Hope its what I wanted, it was only $210.

Let us know how you like the classicautosound unit. Some folks have been disappointed.

I had an AM radio converted to AM/FM/MP3/IPOD/CD

Love it. Looks stock but is a digital AM/FM radio with a MP3/IPOD/CD output.

thedugan,

If you don't mind me asking, about how much did this conversion cost? I've been searching for a vintage-looking (non cassette) radio for my 67 and have only found the USA-6, which has had mixed reviews.

Their site says "From $385.00"

If you can find an original AM/FM you can expect to pay around $700. for it.

looks good, but I think I'm going to stick with the am/fm conversion for an original appearance
