: 69 upper control arm shafts (offset)
jsffd Feb 28th, 06, 07:12 PM Guy at alignment shop says to install the offset upper a arm shafts, that they all sag, I bought the shafts, they look different, big ugly male threads that accept a nut instead of the bolts. Anyone know of an offset shaft that looks like the original? can they be cut and tapped? The steel im sure is very hard.
Straight-line-69 Feb 28th, 06, 10:16 PM The only offset shafts I've heard of is Moog's K-5250,..which other than the offset, closely resemble the originals. Are you using another brand?
Aren't unibody cars a gas!
jsffd Mar 1st, 06, 09:38 AM the shafts on my z are very close except the ends dont have male threads, the moog are longer because of the threads on both ends, the originals have a female on each end to accept the bolt that butts up against the washer, i looked at multiple boxes of moog and they are all the same...
Teetoe_Jones Mar 3rd, 06, 01:55 AM The studs are there for a reason. That reason is to keep the bushings from backing off of the crossshaft, and out of the control arm. A very good idea would be to use a castle nut and drill the end of the stud for a cotter pin. I had a set of PST polygraphite bushings which lost the bolt that retained the bushing to the cross shaft, and the bushing fell out of the drivers control arm. After that, I went to GW for the studded cross shaft, and cotter pinned the bushings to the studs.

Straight-line-69 Mar 3rd, 06, 02:57 PM You're right,..it is different,..but hardly noticable when installed,..plus the set-up that Mood supplies has to be stronger than the stock bolt and washer. I have one 69 with the Moog kit, and the other two are stock, I've never known there was diff.
No big deal.
jsffd Mar 4th, 06, 01:11 PM can you see the big nuts when installed on the car? The car is a full restoration, not a 100pt job but the best i can do, trying to keep everything looking original.. thanks

Back to the original question... did the guy at the alignment shop have it on the rack when he said this? Do we even know there is a problem? While some do sag (I've had one) they do not ALL sag.
jsffd Mar 5th, 06, 11:58 AM No, the subframe is out of the car, front end was aligned few years ago shim amount not excessive, have not measured the frame yet, guy at shop seems to think most subframes settle.
