Finally got the Monte SS 454 I have been wanting! Cool license plate was in the "junk in the trunk".

The partial vin's stamped by the oil filter (see www.69lm1.com/70ss454 )
and the block is a 3963512.

So, here's the question. The suffix code T0227CRN (CRN) shows a 70 Chevelle SS 454, 4 speed. At least at www.chevymania.com. Any other sites anyone know of that would show suffix codes for non camaro? I am also going to ask the guys at firgenmc as well.

There were no known 4 speed monte SS's made, and this car shows no sign of ever being anything other than an automatic.

Rich,

Colvin's 70-75 CBTN shows the "CRN" as a 1970 Monte Carlo 454/360 with a Turbo 400, and your engine was assembled on February 27th.

Thanks Ed, Still waiting for an answer at firgenmc, but another person just aked the same ? there. Most of the lit covers the chevelle's, not much on the monte's!

Leftover engine? Nice find.

I would say the top end has been done due to the different color of paint compared to the block. Looks like OE tailpipes.

Cool, looks like a typo in most of the books on the CRN suffix code (mt/at) according to the MC guys. Looking good as far as the originality goes. If it did have upper work done, it needs to be redone. Runs rough and, when I can get it started, backfires.
