Went to work on my left front fender on my 67 the other day as I'm getting ready to put the sheetmetal back on the car. I replaced both inner fenders as they had lots of rust. Two of the bolts that hold the front extension on the fender had rusted globs where the heads used to be so I basically had to cut them off. When I seperated the two, the back 5-6" of surface of the fender that mounts to the extension disintegrated.
There is also surface rust on the inside of the wheel lip (might be close to coming through) and the inside layer is peeling behind the wheel opening at the bottom a little.
I know I need a new extension, but I'm debating whether to replace the fender with a Goodmark unit or try to get the current one repaired. I may put it back together as is and let the shop work it when I get the car painted in 3-4 months.
Can a fender like this be repaired? Or are the Goodmark's good enough and maybe a less expensive alternative as they are <$200?
BTW....went an looked at a Taiwan panel at a local panel shop and it was bad. Thin, had a shipping/handling dent right behind the wheel, and didn't come with extension.....and they wanted $230 for it.....I passed.
