A friend is thinking about buying a 67 and the guy sent him this photo of the tag. Not a very good picture and missing one side, but can anyone tell from what we can see if it looks to be a legit tag?

I would need a better pic to determine originality.

I'll see if I can get him to send a better picture...

Looks good to me (opinion only), but a better picture would let the real experts make a better judgement than mine. Could be an RS/SS350 or an RS/LM30/M20 with that tag. Does it have the original drivetrain in it? Decently optioned car and I like the color scheme. If it turns out to be a legit tag and your friend doesn't buy it let me know :)

I would have to agree with clwilcox33 that the tag looks good from what we can see, need a better pic though to be sure.

Even being blurry that tag looks original to me. I would also like to see a better picture but I think that it would only prove the tag to be authentic.

my opinion is a repo tag...but like the others a better picture is needed to determine..

The vin number seems a bit late for a 4A car (unless the published data on April 67 LOS production is off or vins were out of sequence) - I would think for 4A the vin should be something like 1505XX to 151XXX. The vin plate has been removed and replaced- those pop-rivits are not kosher. I don't want to guess why beyond body work. Have you checked for a hidden or partial vin elsewhere? Do they match?

The cowl tag appears original to me at first glance- if the focus was better we could tell for sure.

He is going to look at the car today and will check for a hidden vin. I'll post what he finds out.

I would say it is a repo tag . I have an 04A LA car & there is only four numbers following the LOS. In this picture there are five numbers following LOS Wrong in my opinion.Im definintely no expert, even I noticed that. That VIN should have been built 04B.

Nothing wrong with the body number, your car has a 4 digit body number because it has a deluxe interior, this car has a standard interior and the body number is just fine for an 04A car. Tag itself looks real and it doesn't look like its ever been off the firewall, but then I don't look at 67 and 68 tags like I do the 69's

Just a question on how many Camaro's were built between 03D and 04A. I have a 03D with vin# 124377L150010 and the 04A has a vin#124377L153539. Large number of Camaro's built in a very short time. Just a comment on this thread.

My friend passed on this car. He didn't bother to look for the hidden vin because he was so upset that he had driven 6 hours to look at the car and it was no where near as nice as the owner had said. Turned out to be another "if it sounds to good to be true it probably is" story.

I'm no expert here but I believe other cars were being built at the same time.
Even then 3500+ in two weeks seems like quite a few for Van Nuys.
Somebody will have a definitive answer.......

I feel for him as ive been there done that. As i know many have. Drove 9 hours one way to look at a 67 Vert that was the same ending. Spent 18 hours driving round trip cause some ASS$#@% couldnt tell me the truth over the phone...even though he knew i was still going to come look at it before i bought it. It was a loooong ride home.

Only Norwood cars with the 4P can be either SS350 or L30, according to CRG. The LOS cars are definately a SS350. Tag looks good so far. Where is the clear picture of it?

I think 4P was for each plant. As my 1967 Camaro is a LA car and a 4P with the 327 still in the car. With the P.O.P to go with it.

4P was designated for the traction bar as noted by CRG. Not just for the SS350. Early Norwood cars didn't have the 4P. Some Z/28's actually had the 4P also later in the year (December I think). That information is on CRG I believe. My car was a SS350, as noted by the original tire inflation sticker on the glove box and rear axle. Just my .02.
