I have a black console I bought off of ebay. I would like the paint the sides of the console "bright blue" to match my bright blue interior. Is there any way to remove the black paint down to the bear "white-ish" plastic underneath? I have noticed in very small places where spots have been rubbed over the years. Those spots are rubbed all the way down to the white "original" color of the console. Thanks

I thought they were molded black.

I was told by a person that works in a hobby store to use full strength Easy Off oven cleaner. It worked on my dash carrier to remove paint. Spray it and put it in a trash bag to keep the fumes in. It worked very well.

I'm not sure but I think oven cleaner will damage the plastic
I scuffed my console with scotch pads
Than I used bull dog adhesion promoter and painted
It came out great and has not chipped at all

Goof Off makes a great graffiti remover. Let the stuff do the work. I found it worked best to let it sit for a half hour or more when I stripped some plastic interior parts that where badly painted.

easy off is the best, i agree with gary l , because i've used it on plastic model car bodies to remove old paint when i use to build plastic kits,no worries i can guarantee it

I just restored my console about eight months ago . I used the Easy Off..sprayed it on and wrapped it tight in a big garbage bag, let it sit overnight..hit it with the rough side of my sponge from the kitchen sink...repeated the process and got it down to the original black plastic. I then used Eastwood products to prep and paint..don't forget to properly prep the console before painting.Eastwood has specific stuff to do this with. As I remember , a cleaner, a plastic prep...a prep paint and then the paint itself..mine turned out great and has held up fine with no deterioration of the paint

I'm not sure but I think oven cleaner will damage the plastic .......
Not at all. It worked great on my dash. It is the same plastic. The reason I responded to this question was because it did work. I did not have anyone to reassure me when I took the chance.
