A friend of mine wants a good combo for his 72 ss. He wants to go as wide as is practical, with a decent sidewall. 18" rims are what he had in mind.

But i considered Pro touring it before selling it (coming to my senses) and buying my 69 Camaro and at that time i looked up the HOTCHKIS Chevelle, That car is untubbed and ran (if memory doesn't jump on me here) 315-35-17 so that should fit (in 18's) easily in your friends car.
