Hello Drag Experts,

I need help with my 60' times. Tonight was the first drag night this season at Infinieon Raceway, and the track was cold and damp and I had no traction through 2nd gear. I got three runs before the event was called for rain. The results (60') were: 2.372s, 2.356s, and 2.339s. My set-up is 215/65-15 BFG white-letter T/A's. 5 leaf multi's and Toicko gas shocks (front and rear) and the front sway bar disconnected. I don't encounter any wheel hop. I'm thinking of some drag radials. Does anyone have any recomendations. Also, I need to drive about 190 miles round trip to the track, so they need to street worthy.
-How much improvement could I expect from this?

I could also fit 90/10 shocks in the front, as they would be easy to install at the track.
-How much improvement would they be worth?

The reason I am turned by this one is of my races went like this:
The other car 60'=1.904 ET=13.121@98.66 to my 60'=2.339 ET=14.023@101.13. All three races I got skunked in the 1st 60'. My RT's range from .251 to .272. My trans is a stick. Also, I was picking up 21mph from the 1/8 to the 1/4. Is this okay? The engine seems to run well with the flat cam being replaced.

Thanks

One word: TIRES! At your power level a nice set of M/T Drag radials should dead hook it pass after pass.

Hello Curtis-

My recommendations are to use the BFG Drag radials, they hold up on the street fairly well. But the better idea, esp since you have a stick car, is to mount a set of Hoosier Quick Time Pro's or something comparable to put on at the track. Of course it is a hassle to some to do this, but even with the BFG's traction may be iffy with a stick.

I would also recommend installing some traction bars. I am pretty sure I am correct in saying that the reason Camaro's got a bad rep for whell hop is because of the way the shocks were mounted on '67's. Chevrolet changed that in 1968 and supposedly reduced it or eliminated wheel hop.

IMO the traction bars do alot more than eliminate wheel hop. Some basic chassis dynamics suggests that the traction bars will contact the leaf spring or frame area and prevent the hogs head/rear end housing from rotating. This lifts the rear body of the car and transfer force to the rear tires, planting them on the track.
You can see the chassis 'work' to a degree on some cars set up like this. Dodge Demons and Darts from that era are good examples. You can easily see the body raise up significantly when the driver stalls the car up against the converter.

Some stock eliminator Camaros in the IHRA/NHRA are running 10's in the quarter on a small tire and traction bars.

If you are dead set against traction bars the Cal Trak bars , and South Side Machine Bars are becoming more popular as well-

Hope this helps.

Just a note-
I purchased a 406 from a guy running 10.80's on street tires in an all stell and glass (no lexan) '68 Camaro, which will be going into my '68 RS. Dynoed at 548 HP. He used Hoosier Quick Time Pro's with sub frame connectors and lakewood traction bars. He has 1.51 60 foot times, deadly consistent.
After one run he noticed cords hanging out of one of the tires while still cranling out a 1.51 60 foot.

Thanks for the responses. I will pick up an extra two rallys and mount some drag radials.

Thanks again
