i have a new comp xe284h,thinkinging about swapping it for an xs282s.
for the most part, these seem to be identical profile cams.
the big advantage i can see for the solid cam is the availability of comp's .012 drilled lifters that pressure oil the cam lobes directly.
they take the same recommended springs
would the solid's ramps be more aggressive?
i don't mind checking and adjusting lash once in awhile.
i am planning on using a stronger spring than the 986(941) and thought a solid would handle spring pressure vs.rpm better as well.
am i missing anything?
thank's!

You might look in the back of CC's BIG cat. and see if they list both lobes, then check .050" and whatever other duration numbers they list to really see how aggressive each one is to try to tell between them.
And you have to remember that the one with the higher lift at a given duration if both durations are the same is the more aggressive one.

breaks down like this;
hydro;adv.,284/296,.050,240/246@.507/.510
solid; adv.,282/290,.050,244/252@.520/.540
.016 lash
breaks down to .520-.016=.504/.540-.016=.524
i'm sure the duration changes with the lash, but don't remember how to calc.the difference.
already looking like the vortecs would like the solid better due to the greater i/e split.
what do you think?

Until the lash is taken up; net lift is zero regardless of at what point on the cranks rotation we are talking about. You hit it on the head when you mentioned," … a solid would handle spring pressure vs.rpm better as well.", and " i don't mind checking and adjusting lash once in awhile.": because that is the difference.
There is a difference when you throw a roller into the mix but you didn't ask so I ain't tellin'.

I am no cam expert so would have to defer to somebody like Harold here, but imho, the solid is some more aggressive than the hy-cam!
Not much, but I will pick it over the other one also b/c it can knock the lifter harder which equates to higher accel. numbers.
