Can anyone tell me what the max you can bore a L-88 68 427. I am looking at one .100 over. Also I have a 67 tube chassis camaro. do you know what kind of headers would fit. Would about any header work if they say for a tube chassis car. What primary would you recommend it has reqtangular port 13.1 CR single plane intake roller cam. Thanks Dan

To me, .060" over is just an average overbore.

And .100" is too after sonic checking, with a .125" overbore about the MAX.!!

When in doubt, get it in writing that it has to pass a sonic check OR you get your money back!

I would only bore to 100 if the core shift is good...crash

Im using Hooker Super Comps in my BBC 68 Camaro with power steering(soon to be manual steering) its a tight but they work. The primary tubes on my headers are 2 1/8"

Any block can be bored any size if you are willing to sleeve it. I personally think you are safe at about 0.090" with this aged block because they were thicker than todays modern, thin wall castings; but not that much. '67-to early '69 blocks were considered to be medium thickness. That being said I would sonic check first bore only with clean bill of health.

These blocks are also not cleranced for long stroke cranks (such as the 4.00" arm in the 454).

To be safe you will need to talk to whoever built the chassis or has had headers in your particular car before or just go ahead and have a custom set built for your car. Personally the custom built set is the best way to go IMHO We have built quite a few chassis cars and there are a lot of factors that play into what will fit and what will not. I do not like to "ding" them or what ever just to get them to fit.

If its a real 68 L-88 it is clearenced for a 4.000 crank. They came with 7/16s rods and had the clearence cuts in the bottom.

you need to have it sonic tested like stated before,i just wanted to let folks know that you could bore the 4 bolt 396 blocks to 427 on the 68 and older blocks.
