not a question, so I guess it belongs in bench. Got about 3 hours driving on the new 383 now. Had some valves ticking so I went through and adjusted them today, found the #5 intake rocker sideways and the pushrod bent a bit!! Took off all the yearold aftermarket rocker nuts, put the originals back on, all good there now. If any loosen up again, going to polylocks.

Played with the tune some, easing toward "kill" from "breakin"...lol. Bumped initial to 18 from 12, total now at 36. Leaned the idle down some, too.

2 years ago, I'd played some with the carb covering up rough spots in the ole 327. I put the original metering rods back in, she seems to like it, will lean the primary mains back out, too. Think I will go back to baseline factory on the carb and tune from there is needed.

Took 'er out and "leaned" on it for the first time ever, hehe. With the 3.27 low, no traction in first, hauled the stick into secoind at 6k, got some wheelhop. More like "Wheel-BANG" Banged so loud I thought it coulda broke something, then hooked and WENT. 6k shift to third and shut down.

DAYUM!!! This here 383's got some serious power, particularly considering she's got a 230 cam and idles like a caddy at 650 rpm.

Anyone got a good deal on a posi for an 8.2?

I LIKE what I've done to my car, guys, this IS GOOD!

Posi is gonna be a must with that motor. Your roads are clear enough (salt dust) in Illinois to drive? Surprising...lucky! I was able to take mine down my road about 3 miles yesterday and then straight back home. That TKO is a huge improvement. Slammed thru all the gears, when i hit fifth i was still on it...looked down and was doing 95. Didnt take long to get there either. Man, a speeding ticket cant be far off in my future. Thing just cruises sweet at 75. Oh, one other thing Jim, any oil drops under the car when you were done? Just had to ask... :D

Just had to ask, didn't you? So I jacked up the front of the car and spend the last 10 minutes crawling around under there with a bright light...lol.

Found some gear lube on the crossmember and center link, musta dripped out of the trans on the way in. Found the lower part of the power steering pressure hose was "shiny", removed the abrasion sock, cleaned the hose and the sock, we'll see. Noticed earlier a lil oil around the sending unit, will have to tighten that. Found some possible "dry evidence" of antifreeze coming out of one of the lower head bolts... will keep an eye on that. Friday there was a 2" puddle of antifreeze under the bell housing...I took it to the machine shop, had a talk about freeze plugs, think he scared it into sealing, hasn't happened since.

So yes... let's give it a week or 2 more, but I think it is tight. I know the engine itself has NO oil coming out of it. NONE.

Good for you JimM! Isn't it fun? I am just starting to build up this 406, got all the parts I needed, got the 8.5 10 bolt getting a complete rebuild at the shop, and new PDB all set up now. It's gonna feel like a whole new car when I'm done. Remember to keep your vert between the lines buddy...you still got a long trek to make it to Montana this summer!

after a truck trip north to enjoy 18" of snow in the making, got to have a "vert day" today. 2 service calls then back to the shop, will be 100 miles when I get home. Car is freaking FLAWLESS! Runs / start / idles perfectly, a joy to drive with the new powerplant and trans. Even with the 3.08 gears, she's happy in overdrive at 45 and up. Gas guage fell a lil over a quarter. About 40 miles was highway, did I mention I love that overdrive?
