View Full Version : Hail this afternoon in Columbia, MO!!
pdq67 Mar 12th, 06, 06:56 PM The Daughter, S-i-L and Baby G/D left our place in the S/E of Columbia, about dark after visiting this afternoon.
She called about 20 minutes later which is about the time it take’s them to get to their place in the N/C part of town north of I-70 up old Hwy 63.
Scratch my S-i-L’s small Ford P/U b/c she said it looked like some kids took a bunch of ball-pien hammers to it as well as knocked the windshield out!
Hail was like 2” or better in diameter and blanketed the ground at least 2 to 3 inches thick when they got home.
We’d had one heck of a front move through this afternoon but it missed our part of town.

travis Mar 12th, 06, 07:01 PM There's more moving your way as I type this. We got hammered this afternoon...fortunately no hail right here but just a couple miles northeast of Gardner was getting golf ball and tennis ball sized hail.
big mike Mar 12th, 06, 07:18 PM We're getting in on now too pdq67. Keep the car inside, there's more coming your way. Be safe. Mike

By the time I could have got the car down and moved over and the truck moved in the hail was over.Only about a quarter size and too dark to tell if truck was damaged have to check in the morning.
pdq67 Mar 12th, 06, 09:23 PM About 10:20 PM or so here and the darn tornado sirens went off about five minutes ago so It's gonna be a long night!

ztoy Mar 13th, 06, 06:57 AM Gonna be down your way in June pdq. Stopping to visit my Uncle in Columbia and then go up to Bethel, just east of Macon, to visit my mothers grave and meet some kin.
Scott Taylor Mar 13th, 06, 07:26 AM We have had a ton of hail here in Northern California too. We even have snow in the foot hills, which is pretty rare around here. All in all March has been a cold month.
cd playa Mar 13th, 06, 08:13 AM We also got some hail here in San Diego, also I just flew in from Chico, CA on Saturday and it was hailing up their too.
travis Mar 13th, 06, 09:45 AM How did you make it thru last night Paul? I hope ok.
Good grief did kansas, missouri, illinois, ohio, and indiana get hammered last night. They had something like 65 confirmed tornados last night in kansas and missouri alone
pdq67 Mar 13th, 06, 05:29 PM Open up this link to the Columbia Trib. and hit on the slide-show by the left lower side of the pic and you will see what happened recently.

supv26 Mar 13th, 06, 05:43 PM We got some hail also. We also got a lot of rain. We needed the moisture but not the damage. I sure hated seeing all the damage on the news tonight. We really feel sorry for those folks. Luckily we had all the important vehicles inside and so far I cannot find any damage to the house. Two people I work with were not as lucky. Both guys had damage to their vehicles and homes. Good luck.
pdq67 Mar 14th, 06, 06:12 AM ztoy,
I know Bethel well, it is part of my childhood stomping grounds! Anything within a 20 mile radius of Atlanta, MO was stomping grounds, he, He!! I will keep in touch as it gets closer to your visit to COlumbia.
Guys,
Here's what my old RR Buddy that is a Guard at the Moberly Prison just north of Renick, MO on old Hwy 63 e-mailed me just now.
"Hey Paul: Being Sunday I didn't even catch the weather forcast. Kind of wondered about the sirenes, but went to sleep anyway. We got a thunderstorm a little hail and nothing else. Most of the storm just went around us. Not even any limbs blown out of the trees or anything. Just lucky I guess. Some of the guys at work got hit pretty hard though. At least one that I work with lost everything, but no body got hurt. Most of the damage up here was around Renick. The building at the 63-Rinick junction are gone, that rebarco building and the one accross the road and about 3 miles on down that blacktop an 84 yeard old woman got killed. Two others in the Rinick are dead too. A Billy and his wife Pinnie Briscoe. 60 and 57 who lived on old hiway 63 south of Renick. There was also a Warren Clubine 85 on County road 2735 killed. I'm not real sure just where that is, but they say all four were killed within a 3 to 4 mile area around Renick. The 84 year old woman was Margaret Everhart. One guy at work said he got hail as large as baseballs for awhile over by Madison and dinged his truck up some and maybe got some roof damage. Most of the rest of us got just a bad thundrstorm. How were things in Columbia? Later ---"....................
BASEBALL SIZED HAIL!!
WOW!!
Later, Paul
Dog Jockey Mar 14th, 06, 10:47 AM My in-laws live in Parkade, just north of I-70 in Columbia MO. The four windows on the left side of their house were busted out, and the screen on the deck was torn up big time. Also banged up father in-laws S-10 pretty good. They had golf ball size hail in the garage and both bedrooms. Thank God no one was hurt!!
3SuperSports Mar 14th, 06, 06:14 PM Everything except rain and some late night 2" hail is all I ended up with. That and quite a light show.
I hope everybody's okay.

pdq67 Mar 30th, 06, 08:41 PM 9:36 Thursday evening, March 30th and it's as if the hail storm we had in the north part of town wasn't enough, we are under a Tornado Warning!!
And I just stepped outside two minutes ago and there is a h-ll of a Thunderhead bearing down on us!! Probably 5 miles away at the most....
Well wish us luck..
My daughters house is gonna have to be resided on a couple of sides as well as new roof plus, their little Ford P/U is toast form the hail storm on the 12th!!

ztoy Mar 31st, 06, 06:51 AM glad to hear it pdq. Btw, the wife and I will be down in Columbia around June 8-10 for a day or two making a stop in Macon and Bethel along the way. I have kin buried in a little church graveyard in Bethel. I think the name of the church is Bethel Christian Community Church located near where some of our family used to homestead.
