I washed my 95 Z28 yesterday, and when I got in it and left, I traveled about half a mile and the engine started sorta shuttering with the rpms dropping. After a second or two it went back to acting fine, about 2000 feet or so it did it again, and died. I ran the battery down trying to start it and got someone to jump me off. It started the first try and idled fine for about 5-10 mins, when I headed back toward the house it did it again and I poped the clutch to keep it crunk. I put it in my shop and looked it over, I new it was sorta low of oil and was afraid it might be trying to lock up, but it was only about a quart low. Anyway I fired it up again and let it idle for a min, and reved it and it did fine, so I took it up the road and back and it did fine. I drove it all day and it did fine till about one this morning when I happened again, it died and I was careful not to run the battery down, at first it wouldn't crank then it crunk and idled fine but when I reved it up ata bout 3000it shuttered and died again. It would crank for a couple of mins then it crunk and ran, I had to get on it for a min, but after that it was fine. I bought a bottle of fuel injector cleaner and put it in. But I was just wondering if anyone might could help me determine the cause of this odd behavior.

Try the crankshaft sensor. If is going bad it will run and then stall it will start back up and run fine for awile and then stall again.

I was thinking the same as Mike. Had a similar issue with a car. Would run great most times, but at random times would buck and shudder, then just shut down. The wire to the crankshaft sensor had an exposed spot in the wire's insulation, and every now and then it would move and ground itself out. Took the shop forever to find it.

They also have a cam sensor, but Ive been told it will run with a bad one. Wont with a bad crank sensor.

Also the optispark causes issues, especially if they got wet.
