Did quite a bit of searching and probably know this is a common question but couldn't find the answer.
1968 RS/SS- I am wondering what the proper disk brake set up would be. It has 4 wheel dumb brakes and want to convert it over to power front disk. I am guessing that the only option would have been four piston disk from GM. Dealer could have installed the 69 single piston.
I am not that concerned with keeping the drum brakes on it right now. The wife drives alot and it is not a good set up for her.
1st question- what would be the set up to use to try and maintain some period correctness? The four piston or single. Four= more money but from factory? Single= less money, could have been dealer installed?
2nd question- Would the 11 inch booster have been the correct booster? If so what brand, part number?

Thanks in advance. Not looking to sell the car as something it is not but if I am going to do the front disk, I would like know which way the folks out there would do it. Jamie

I went with the single piston non powered front disc only and i'm very happy with it.Stops great, with little effort, the kit I bought was easy to install and understand and it was affordable.I dont know about the original stuff and what was offered i know some of the other guys are really good at that, and I'm sure you'll get some post.

Hi Jamie.

All 67-68s had 4 piston as far as I know. Those calipers can be bought new today, not that expensive. It gets worse on the rotors. They have to be in 2 parts, hub and disc. I don't think they're made anymore, but it was a few years since I had that need, ended up finding used ones in Sweden. You can buy a one piece rotor/hub, it'll fit and work well, but it's not correct. On the other hand, if it's a daily driver, and it can't be seen through the wheel, it's only freaks like me who cares...:D
