I have a 68 SS 396 car that I am dropping a .30 over 9.75:1 cr 427 in.
Power will be(based on computer model) in the 500 hp range and tq in the 480 range.... Car will be a weekend only cruiser/local car show and 3-4 times a year get hammered at the track.... 3000 stall on a Pro Mod level 3 TH 400 full manual valve body tranny... You think that with a eaton Posi and 3.42 gearing with Moser axles the 8.2 inch will hold? Or do you think it will die gloriously?

I hate to say it, but I think the first time it hooks at the track you're going to have pieces.

The factory offered the 12 bolt on all big block Camaros and Nova cars, not because they liked to spend money. It was so that the car might last through the 36,000 mile warranty period (offer void if they even thought the vehicle had ever been raced) running on hard as nails Goodyear Polyglass E70-14 tires. I wouldn't give it snowballs chance in a warm mythical location, with anything other than street tires sold by the buy three get one free guy.

when I bought the car..
it had been tubbed by a butcher and a Mark Williams 9inch with 4.56's spool pro ring and pinion set up and pinion support...blahblah...in it... original 12 bolt was no-where to be found... car was a track car.. and I am saving it from that fate... Returning it to the street as a slightly wicked street machine. Stumbled across this 69 rearend for next to nothing. So... guess I'll sell this rearend and work on a 12 bolt or a 8.5 10 bolt. i won't destroy this original rearend... I'll save it for someone who needs it.... and the 9 is just too narrow.. so I'm gonna sell it too.
THanks for your help guys

Build an 8.5 Nova rear end with 30 spline axles and a 30 spline Eaton posi. That should do it. You might want to have the axle tubes welded because the 8.5 plug welds are junk.

Yeah.. that's what I was thinking... now... where does one find one of those elusive 71-74 nova rear end....?

I've got one and I'm in Houston. Took it out of an Omega or Appollo (as in the O and A of NOVA), can't remember which but it's the same rearend. It's not a posi but it is the 8.5. If you're interested let me know I'm sure we could work something out. By the way, I travel to Marble Falls all the time so RR would not be much out of the way.
