I have a '69 Camaro and I'm building a 468 motor with Merlin cast iron heads. The car has power disc brakes, no power steering and it's a 4 speed stick. I want ceramic coated. Any ideas on size tubes, collector size, length, brand that fits well, etc.? I looked on Summit's web site and a lot that they listed didn't fit a manual shift transmission. ?

I've got 2" long-tube Hookers on a 69 with a 496,..part number 2205-1 (the -1 is the coated version). Very pleased. If you have PS, these are great because the 5-tube is routed over the 7-tube which clears the PS Box with ease.

Do a search,.."Hooker 2205" for more feedback.

I don't have PS but I do have a 4 speed. I'm pretty sure none of the Hooker headers fit a stick shift Camaro. I have to go look again.

You're right. They list it in the Competition series but not the Super Comp series for a stick shift car. Thanks for your help.

The 2205 fits a four speed great. The only minor mods were:

1) I had to re-route the clutch-fork return spring (simply used a hose clamp on a header tube and hooked the spring to it).

2) I had to use the small block adjusting rod (the little push-rod that goes between the fork and the Z-bar). The BB version almost clears, but the SB rod allows clearance without bending or denting anything and works fine.

I also had to re-route the fuel line,..the hard line, from the side of the frame to the top to clear the 4 & 6 tubes. No big deal though.

Also,..as far as 2" inch, long-tube headers for a BB Camaro, this is the easiest fit I've seen,..the spark plug clearances are great, except # 7 which is accessed from under the car,..starter clearance is great (no chance for heat soak),..and you can use any oil filter you want (I use the larger PF-35 or equivalent).

Any headers can be difficult. BB headers are worse. And 2" BB headers are even more challenging, so keep your expectations in check.

Lastly,..if you're running studs instead of head-bolts you may run into clearance issues on the bolts below the header flanges,..this is true of most BB headers. You may have to use stock-style head bolts in those locations.

Good luck!
