Hi Guys,

All help is appreciated in advanced.

I am looking at purchasing a 68 Firebird (I know its not a Camaro, but I owned two 69s in past so don't abuse me too hard) its a solid driver, but has a Turbo 350 or 400, I didn't have oppurtunity to check exactly which one.

When you put car in Park it still rolls. The shifter appears "in" park, as its all the way forward on the console. I am guessing this is likely a linkage issue, but maybe not. Its seems to shift fine...

Any other experiences, ideas or comments?

It is also possible that the parking pawl is broke. Mine was on a '67 Camaro and I had to block the wheels everywhere I parked until I had it fixed.

What was the $$ damage or process on getting it fixed? Just trying to consider that in my total investment...

I had the whole trans rebuilt. It cost me $600.00 but it was built Hi-performance with Kevlar clutches and band and heat treated sprag. I don't think the little pawl costs much but you have to inside the trans to get to it. Best bet is to call a trans shop.

Thanks for the help...

I will check it out a little more closely and see if its a serious issue or not...

Some yrs ago when I rebuilt our trans, I made the mistake of putting the pawl wrong way or located incorrect.
To fix it basically ment starting from the front of the case, pull everything out in order, correct , then put everything back. EVERYTHING...its down at the bottom.
I would imagine , if it was broken, u would have other strange noises also??
