Anybody out there have any valid info about pumping up a 302? I have a 69 DZ engine in my 68Z that I purchased in 1977. I'm considering AFR heads and a mechanical roller cam but unsure what size. I'm leaning toward AFR 180's but no clue about the cam. The car has a Tremec TK600 with 26 in. tires, and 4.10 gears. I live out in the country so idle quality is not a major concern. Also has a Victor Jr. manifold and Holley 750 h.p. carb.

good pic on the heads, Id look at comps extreme energy or lunati voodoo cams, Im a fan of both but like the voodoo a little more. I wouldnt go bigger than a 286. sounds like a good setup so far.

Welcome Troy. Keep us posted. This should be interesting. Do a search. There is a ton of info on this subject.
Just my opinion, but how about selling the DZ or at least storing it. Buy another block and maybe reunite the DZ with the 69 Z/28 it came in.:waving:

I would buy a GMPP 383 crate or a 400+ build from some one else. Pull your 302, and bag all the parts for long term storage. The DZ 302 motor will only appreciate in value, and you will be much happier in the long run with a low compression big inch small block that is painted Chevy Orange with aluminum heads and Edelbrock RPM manifold. More torque, more horse power no hassles.
