View Full Version : Money is an issue...
mbmmca Mar 14th, 06, 08:56 AM I've been reading through some of these posts, trying to figure out what to put on 67 coupe. Right now it has rollers on it. When the time comes, I have to pick something that looks nice, rides decent, and doesn't cost a fortune. I'm not building a rocket, nor a race car. Any suggestions? Dollar limit right now = 500.00 (not per wheel either).
Any suggestions?
kz1000ltd Mar 14th, 06, 09:53 AM Can't beat stock 15 inch rallys in my opinion, and it's within your budget.
CFunK Mar 14th, 06, 11:43 AM I 2nd KZ's opinion. Tires, rims, trim rings and center caps for right around $500.
Run269 Mar 14th, 06, 01:32 PM it's coming up on swap meet season, i got a real nice restored set of 15" rally's at my local swap meet a couple of years ago for around $400 ready to mount tires and bolt on with caps and rings included.
just make sure they are a matching set, backspacing, bolt pattern and preferably codes inside the rim and by the valve stem hole.
Jason1968Camaro Mar 16th, 06, 08:54 AM Ebay. Search local. I found a great looking set of 18" wheels and tires for my 02 Silverado. They looked like new, and were less than 1/2 price (I honestly don't see the point in buying new wheels. They will eventually get marked/scuffed).
Look on Craigslist.com.
Also search for any popular local clubs that have web sites (Camaros, City forums, 4x4 clubs, rockcrawler clubs, muscle car sites, etcs) The site may not be what your looking for, but the guys on the site post other items they have for sale. You may luck up.

Maybe Im just old fashioned...15 inch SS cragers (this design was 1st released in '69) with white lettering something like 235 or 245 x 60s.
Behind that, get out the air brush and paint the calipers etc a couple shades darker than the car...tyre black the inner gaurds for appearance of depth.
There is something about the curves of the SS cragars that fits with the curve style of late 60s early 70s US/Holden Monaro Aussie muscle cars .
importkiller69ss Mar 16th, 06, 12:33 PM i second k andrews i am 19 and my first car was a 70 chevelle that i bought 15" cragars for...they are timeless and the 15x8 are 130 bucks
mbmmca Mar 17th, 06, 04:04 AM Thanks. Swap meets are always great places. I'll be at Midland in June/July. I'll also go check out ebay. Hadn't thought of that....
Thanks again...
pdq67 Mar 18th, 06, 11:01 AM To this day, I dearly LOVE CRAGAR, deep-dish, chrome reverse with chrome front hub-center caps and the chrome star axle center covers!!
But, then again I am old-school!! E-60's and L-60's AND it don't get any more old-school than that to me...
I'm talking abour regular wheel reverse rims here with "dog-knots", slots and all but deep-dish chromed reversed! NOT "Smoothies"!!
Don't like smoothies and baby-moons!! TOO much chrome for me is all.........

Straight-line-69 Mar 18th, 06, 05:09 PM I vote for the original rally wheels. But I no longer buy these wheels used. Half are bent and unuseable.
Year One sells new original rally wheels made by the original manufacturer, Kelsey-Hayes,..about $110 a copy.
Cragers are cool too,..I'm old and old school too.
mbmmca Mar 18th, 06, 08:28 PM I was actually considering the American Racing Rally Silver Chrome. Was quoted 110.00/ea by the local Belle Tire of all places...Any thoughts on these?
radial72 Mar 19th, 06, 05:36 PM If price is an issue I almost always pick up used wheels. Last year I bought a '76 SS El Camino for $200 (you could toss a cat through the rust), it was all original (I think the rust was factory issue in '76) and had 5 rally wheels. While the tires were mismatched it did give me a set of rallys cheap and a good small block Chevy to play with... Sold the wheels on a car already and the body (would still be beating on it if the tranny hadn't died), and I still have the engine...which'll probably end up in another project. I just saw a '77 Malibu 4 door with a set of Rallys (no caps or rings) for $400... Be creative, the last set of Cragars I had were on a '79 Chevy half-ton when I bought it (unilugs)...quite often the sum of their parts is less than the whole land barge or wrecked pickup!
69z302 Mar 19th, 06, 06:03 PM I have a set 15 X 8 corvette rally's with 95% rubber on them for 600.00 plus shipping to your location if your interested....Real nice set of wheels had them on my 69 Z......D
idoxlr8 Mar 20th, 06, 02:12 PM You can get into a set of Ralley's for about 500-600 $$, I my self like the big little combo and with new trim rings I am into them for about $625.00 with the new front tires. If you shop around and can recondition some swap meet wheels and caps you should have no problem meeting your goal.

Leadfoot1 Mar 21st, 06, 06:27 PM HOW DO WE COMPLETELY REMOVE A POST WHEN WE CHANGE OUR MIND ABOUT ADDING SOMETHING???????
(HAD TO WRIGHT SOMETHING TO GET OUT OF HERE!!!!)
Lead.
SLEEPER 86 Mar 22nd, 06, 12:34 PM in my mind, nothing beats a set of solid centerlines for a pure bada** look, but if you're going for the stock look, the ralley rims are the way to go.
