When changing cams from Hyd. to solid do the valve springs need to be changed? I thought if the springs would handle the lift of the cam it should be ok.
Thanks
Thanks

Thanks RyanW Mar 14th, 06, 11:26 AM you should be fine, just make sure the spring pressure is correct for the amount of lift your cam is pushing Ryan BlackoutSteve Mar 14th, 06, 11:52 AM There is much more to choosing a spring than just checking for coil bind/making sure it can tolerate a certain amount of lift. It has a lot more to do with how aggressive the lobe profile is and how heavy the valve train might be. Typically, a solid will want a stiffer spring than a hydraulic, but it's worth checking with the cam maker as to what is needed. Never assume the existing springs are good enough just because they don't bind. pdq67 Mar 14th, 06, 06:01 PM Say a 280 hy- and a 280 solid.. HY-cam probably would be fine with say, a 110 set and 280 over the nose and the 280 solid probably would like say, 125 seat and 310 over the nose. It's the difference between the aggressiveness of the designed lobes, (hy- vs solid), as well as actual lift.. Now this is general here but hopefully you will see what I mean. That said, it is probably BEST to use what springs are in the cam KIT!! Then you know you should be fine b/c they will stand behind a cam AND kit installation b/c all the parts are theirs.. pdq67 |
