View Full Version : What to do with car magazines?
Silver69Camaro Mar 14th, 06, 11:35 AM For some reason I keep all of my car magazines. I've got several hundred pounds worth, from 1950-whatever to now. Most are 80's-current.
You know, it's interesting to see how times have changed, and there's alot of tech info, but what can I do with all this stuff? I'd hate to just toss 'em. Do people buy this stuff?
RUSTY69 Mar 14th, 06, 11:44 AM take a look at ebay, alot are selling good, by whatevers on the cover,
Larger Dave Mar 14th, 06, 11:45 AM I am trying to fill in my collection. I have all HotRods back to '71 some earliar; and all Super Chevy to '89 some earliar. Have all of Petersen's titles from 1998 on stashed in file bins. I am also trying to fill in my Cars High Performance mags from mid sixties to mid seventies (I only bought them off stand so they are spotty. I am also trying to find the first couple of issues of Chevy Rumble (missing 1, 2, & 3). I pay about $2 to $5 per mag depending upon age on e-Bay (others pay way more than me). The e-Bay address is:

Silver69Camaro Mar 14th, 06, 12:41 PM They don't seem to be going on e-Bay for all that much...
Boy, it'd be a pain to sell each individually. I'd rather sell them by decade or something. I guess I should catalog every one that I have.
RUSTY69 Mar 14th, 06, 12:50 PM They don't seem to be going on e-Bay for all that much...most of the ones with the camaros on the cover will go for alot, or cut out the adds of the new cars"new 63 nova ss" "new 67 camaro ss" "new 68 nova" "new 62 vette" those sell pretty good "5-10 bucks each"
Codi Mar 15th, 06, 10:19 AM I recycle. Off to the big mtal dumpster I go.
camcojb Mar 15th, 06, 11:30 AM Matt,
I would be interested in them, the whole deal depending on price. I lost most of mine when we flooded in 97 and kinda gave up collecting since then.

kz1000ltd Mar 15th, 06, 11:53 AM Mine are all sitting on a stand in the "library", they get recycled every couple of months, or when the pages start to stick together..........:D:D:D:D
JHunter Mar 15th, 06, 12:13 PM If you can get money from them, go for it
If not, and you aren't that emotionally attached to them,
Get a three ring binder and some protective sleeves (the plastic kind), cut out the articles you want to keep and put them in the binder then toss the rest of the mag. I have a binder of magazine articles on body work, another binder on tranny's and another on engine stuff. I move too often to lug around a hundred pounds of magazines, esp when all I want is one article from each.
camaroman7d Mar 15th, 06, 01:10 PM Matt, I's funny you bring this up. I was just looking at a pile of mags I have. I have boxes of magazines. I am not sure if I want to keep them or what. I have them back to the 70's I thought about doing what Jhunter said, cutting out the articles I want and cataloging them. Let me know what you decide to do, I am not sure I want to give mine up yet. I guess I wasn't much help either, LOL.
Silver69Camaro Mar 15th, 06, 01:40 PM I'd like to catalog them, but I've got so many I'm at the point of no return.
My original plan was the cut out all the articles I thought were useful, but I just never did it. Even the ones that I have cut out, I never look at them again. Info about Vortec heads and such becomes outdated and sometimes incorrect. Ugh.
Glad to know I'm not the only magazine hoarder, Royce. My wife thinks I'm nuts.
Larger Dave Mar 15th, 06, 01:41 PM I use the plastic bins for mags that WalMart sells to keep them organized with a Brother Label maker to identify each year and title. Only put the most valuable older issues in acid free poly bags available from comic book stores.

PS If any one wants to give their mags to me I will promiss them a good home! I'll cheerfully pay shipping. I can also scan articles you want saved and post back info if desired (in Word format or raw pics).
DOUG G Mar 15th, 06, 02:48 PM I gave 2 paper grocery store bags worth to a kid up the road that "likes the older cars, not this rice stuff" maybe that will help him stay with the muscle and pony cars?
