View Full Version : Is this a good deal on a 69Z?
thorpe67RS Mar 14th, 06, 07:22 PM Is it just me or does this seem like a pretty good deal on this 69Z? Numbers matching car (according to the ad) although i dont see any proof of that in the ad. 46k original miles, with documents. It seems to me that where it is priced right now is a pretty decent deal. What do you guys think?

nashcar Mar 14th, 06, 07:40 PM If it's everything the guy says it is, I would'nt take less than 50,000.00 for it.The thing is one really does'nt know without personally inspecting it.
thorpe67RS Mar 14th, 06, 07:47 PM Yeah i hear ya..if i lived anywhere near there i would be looking at it in person without a doubt.
cfauver Mar 14th, 06, 08:51 PM the color hurts the value to some as well. ball burnish with ivory is not the most sought after. if its a true z its a good deal regardless of color.
secondtime z Mar 14th, 06, 09:01 PM Car is in TC classified ads for 60k
ChevyThunder Mar 15th, 06, 03:01 AM Original cars with low mileage and documentation are bringing incredible dollars. I just received an offer of over 30k for my Van Nuys Z..it is all original but it needs to be restored. I would say that car , if it checks out , is worth over 50k.
Hylton Mar 15th, 06, 07:44 AM I like Burnished Brown.
kz1000ltd Mar 15th, 06, 07:46 AM I like Burnished Brown.
You'd really like my friend SSDanny then, all his underwear are that color! :D:D:D
Gary L Mar 15th, 06, 08:28 AM Wait until the price blasts up from $35K in the last minute of bidding. Any color Z/28 with Ivory interior and white stripes looks good.
Jeff H Mar 15th, 06, 09:41 AM I like the color combination. The wheel moldings and louvers are wrong for an X77 car but it looks like a decent car.
thorpe67RS Mar 15th, 06, 11:48 AM Ok, didnt realize it was on TC classifieds. Saw the statement on there "considering offers over 60k" Makes a little more sense now. I just saw it on ebay as a no reserve auction at 35k with a day to go and certainly got my attention.
kz1000ltd Mar 15th, 06, 05:43 PM SSDanny69 is the winning bidder, now he has a car the same color as his undies!!!!!!
ssdanny69 Mar 15th, 06, 05:58 PM Wrong. My undies are a much darker brownhttp://www.camaros.net/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif
thorpe67RS Mar 15th, 06, 06:14 PM Are you really the winning bidder? Whats the deal on the car..i want the scoop.
kz1000ltd Mar 15th, 06, 06:16 PM 60K's nothing for big dollar Danny, shoot, his last facelift cost more than that!
Yes, he really bought the car, I'm sure he'll chime in with the "scoop"!!!!!
ssdanny69 Mar 15th, 06, 06:39 PM The seller has been hard to get ahold off because I think he's traveling this week. I was hoping to inspect the car before placing the bid but will do so when he returns my call. I hope to fly to Orlando Friday or soon after.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think a small block car (Z28) would bring more than $50K. As we all know, prices on the Z28's and any other documented car is climbing at a steady rate.
thorpe67RS Mar 15th, 06, 06:48 PM Keep us posted..i was very interested to see what was gonna happen with this car. I hear ya on the prices. But if history is the best predictor of the future the car will be worth 90k five years from now. Tough to tell from the pics what kinda shape the car is really in with regards to paint, body etc... Good luck!
ssdanny69 Mar 15th, 06, 07:41 PM Will do.
Z11/396 Mar 15th, 06, 07:49 PM hey danny...what happened to the mopar? didnt you sell the ss to buy a ??? cuda?
ssdanny69 Mar 15th, 06, 09:17 PM Mopar was replaced by a Judge GTO which was recently replaced with a Shelby Mustang :-)
ChevyThunder Mar 15th, 06, 09:43 PM Cool car Danny , congrats.. personally I do not think there is a bad color on a Z.. I like them all , especially the yellow ones :)
thorpe67RS Mar 16th, 06, 06:35 AM SSDanny69 is the winning bidder, now he has a car the same color as his undies!!!!!!
Mopar was replaced by a Judge GTO which was recently replaced with a Shelby Mustang :-)
If he changes his underwear as much as he changes his cars i doubt he has that problem :D
kz1000ltd Mar 16th, 06, 06:36 AM He soils them every time he gets a new car!!!!!
ssdanny69 Mar 16th, 06, 08:11 AM Sadly, I can't seem to keep any of my cars for long b/c something else always pops up.
kz1000ltd Mar 16th, 06, 08:16 AM Sadly, it's all about the money. You have no attachments to any of your cars, your just a stinkin' dealer with dirty underwear..........:D
Jeff H Mar 16th, 06, 09:43 AM Wow, I'm surprised the car went that high, especially for an older resto. Better take an extra pair of underwear for the inspection! :D
clwilcox33 Mar 16th, 06, 10:39 AM This post gave me a good chuckle this morning :)
kz1000ltd Mar 16th, 06, 10:44 AM This post gave me a good chuckle this morning :)
Actually, Danny's a good guy, regardless of all the rotten things I post about him! We had talked about going to the Hooters car show in Mesquite on Sunday, but the last weather forecast I saw was rain and mid 50's!!!! If the forecast changes, maybe we can all meet there? If not, we'll have to try for the next one in April!!!!!
thorpe67RS Mar 16th, 06, 12:12 PM Wow, I'm surprised the car went that high, especially for an older resto. Better take an extra pair of underwear for the inspection! :D
Yeah i was a little surprised myself. But i suppose numbers matching, 46k original miles and solid documentation adds a good deal of value.
ssdanny69 Mar 16th, 06, 02:03 PM Cars in Texas, especially Camaros are more expensive. KZ - looks like rain for Sunday. I'm going to the Rowlett cruise-in this evening if you aren't punching your clown.
kz1000ltd Mar 16th, 06, 02:15 PM Don't think I can make it tonight, having dinner with the in-laws.......
ssdanny69 Mar 16th, 06, 04:39 PM R-RIGHT! Clown Puncher. Well I'm off to Florida bright and early to inspect the car.
kz1000ltd Mar 17th, 06, 07:46 PM Well, bad news, after looking at the car, Danny actually DID crap his pants!!!!! He called me this evening, seems like this was a classic eBay car, totally mispresented, #'s didn't match on the motor or tranny, bondo and rust everywhere, no way the car's worth 60K. Danny's on his way back to Texas, I'm sure he'll post about his experience when he get's back, it also appears the owner used pictures in the auction that were about 5 years old!!!! Good grief, oh well, better to find out BEFORE you purchase the car, than after it rolls up at the house on a trailer AFTER money's already exchanged hands! Danny's just out the price of a ticket to Florida, much better than being out 60K!!!!!
thorpe67RS Mar 17th, 06, 07:54 PM Oh man, thats brutal. The thing that bothered me was the only pics of the engine in the ad were actually pictures of pictures. No pics of stampings etc... What a waste of time... people are unbeilievable. How could he not be honest about it when he knew someone was going to fly there to look at it.
ChevyThunder Mar 17th, 06, 08:15 PM Can you imagine the fat hog the seller thought he cut...I hope he didn't spend the money ! Good for Danny.. he obviously is a man of experience..I made the mistake of not looking at a car in person I had bought once upon a time , but is was far less than 60K....
It usually works out that I know someone near the cars I am looking at.. or I come to this site and find a fellow member to do an inspection. Based on the feedback I can eliminate a car or move forward... then you still need to go see what you are buying. Had a TC member familiar with 69 Z/28's inspected the car and taken his own photos , Danny could have saved himself some grief.
freshayr Mar 18th, 06, 04:57 AM every time I hear stories like this it sends chills down my spine. I remember a a long, long ride to WV where the same thing happen......I'm sure you'll never forget it either thorpe67RS. I have been tempted many times to buy a car on ebay sight unseen but I have never been able to bring myself to do it for that reason. I hope he leaves his TERRIBLE feedback.
kz1000ltd Mar 18th, 06, 08:15 AM Yes, and that's what sucks about eBay. Danny's 100% in the right, so he gives the guy negative feedback, and in return, he get's negative feedback where the seller says "Non-paying bidder, 30 year old car's are not perfect, big ugly LOSER!" I'll admit, he is big and ugly, but would certainly not deserve the negative feedback. We'll see what happens...........
Jeff H Mar 18th, 06, 10:19 AM Danny shouldn't get any negative feedback because the car was misrepresented. Ebay should remove that guys feedback to Danny. I can't believe this keeps happening more and more and it's not just Ebay. This car is listed on this site as well. Why do people list something as matching #'s when it isn't? Because of greed, that's why! And these people let potential buyers fly in to look at the car knowing d@m well it isn't original like they claim!
freshayr Mar 18th, 06, 10:29 AM I could understand somewhat if the car was just misrepresented as far as condition but to say that it was numbers matching when it wasn't....if that's the case, the guy's a LOSER. There is no excuse for that.
ssdanny69 Mar 18th, 06, 12:00 PM Plane ticket - $1,000.00
Hotel room - $160.00
Rental car - $75.00
Meals - $50.00
INSOMNIA - $Priceless!
Well guys, I'm out about $1,300 and time. First, let me say that I did ask all the right questions and the seller deffered me to an "unnamed" Camaro expert (NOT Jerry M) in New York, who specializes in Camaros. The seller claims he (Camaro expert in NY) was the second owner of the car and sold it back in the '70's. Hmm, let's see, that's over 30 years ago! Gee, I wonder what can happen to a car in over 30 years.
Craig - you're absolutely right. Shame on me for looking at a picture of a picture of the car. The story I got was that his brother bought the car from an attorney in NY and sold it to his brother, the current owner.
As far as the car is concerned, I'm not into car-bashing but will say that it is not a matching numbers car and needs alot of work. I went ahead and spent the 4 hours inspecting the car, laying on my back, praying to the lord that the chinese made floor jack would not snap and take me to Camaro Heaven. I did however lay next to a dead, dried-up frog that was under the car. Funny, HE had a look of disgust on HIS face!
Finally, seller offer me $25 for my findings, specifically the numbers off the car. He knew from the start that his car was a 5th week in May built car and the block date was for mid-December. The "Camaro Expert" who previously owned the car wrote an "appraisal" for the guy when he bought the car about 4 years ago and clearly stated is was a matching #'s car. I asked if he came to inspect the car in person and was told "NO." What credible person would sign their name and put in writing, authenticating a car they owned many years ago and not seeing it in person when asked to appraise it after 30years?
Finally, I am NOT AN EXPERT by any means. Nothing shocks me because I was in Wisconsin last month inspecting a matching #'s 1970 LS6 Chevelle that was nothing more than a very nicely cloned car.
Once again, I truly value this website and all it's members for their knowledge and help, especially Kurt S (CRG).
kz1000ltd Mar 18th, 06, 12:07 PM Danny shouldn't get any negative feedback because the car was misrepresented. Ebay should remove that guys feedback to Danny. I can't believe this keeps happening more and more and it's not just Ebay. This car is listed on this site as well. Why do people list something as matching #'s when it isn't? That's not how eBay works. They could give a rat's ars about YOUR feedback, as long as they get their money!!!! Whose to say the car was misrepresented? Who are they going to believe? Basically, there are so many auctions going on, there's no way for them to investigate all of them thoroughly, their "safe harbor" site is a friggin' joke, it's ones guys word against another, and basically, they don't care who wins, because they still get their money!!!! Not to mention, to even file a case and participate in the "safe harbor", you have to give them MORE money! It's not cheap either, like 30 bucks to file a claim! Sometimes I feel these "safe harbor" case workers flip a coin, they obviously haven't listened to me on several occasions. In one case, a guy says I never shipped an item. He files a case with Paypal, which is basically nothing but eBay's partner in crime. I sent a photocopy of the receipt from the post office. 3 weeks go by, and they rule in his favor? No explanation, just an email telling me I'm shiite out of luck, and refund's his money from my Paypal account. Here's the best part, 2 weeks later, the same part he said I never shipped is listed by the same guy on eBay for sale! Can you believe that shiite? I sent my pictures of the item in question, sent a link to this guy's new auction, I never even got a response! I finally called and talked to someone, and they told me my "proof" was "inconclusive"! On top of all this, the guy leaves ME negative feedback! This isn't an isolated incident either, I've been through this before in several cases where I was 100% in the right, and eBay let the negative feedback stand!!! I'm to the point now where I just don't leave negative feedback for anybody, period, unless of course it's left for me first and I have no choice but to respond and state my case. Do I know how to fix the problem? Absolutely not, but I know there's got to be a better way.......... OK, I've had my eBay rant for the day, I can't wait for Danny to get home and post his experience with this guy!
thorpe67RS Mar 18th, 06, 02:46 PM And its definitely getting worse by the day. Not only do you have to deal with the auctions that are just a complete scam...but after you sort thru those you have to be worried about people like this. It is to bad there are so many scumbags in the world. Ebay is a great resource...but unfortunately one that must be used with EXTREME caution.
Danny, i feel for ya. I know a lot of us have been burned by these misrepresentations..but $1300 wasted is painful. Not to mention the time and hassle of getting there and back.
ChevyThunder Mar 18th, 06, 07:41 PM Danny is the Camaro Specialist's Initials BH and is his companies initails CS and is he in a town called EA , NY ?
ssdanny69 Mar 18th, 06, 10:13 PM BINGO! It is! I'd like to think that he assummed the car was exactly like it was, back in the '70's.
ChevyThunder Mar 18th, 06, 10:39 PM BINGO! It is! I'd like to think that he assummed the car was exactly like it was, back in the '70's.
I wouldn't assume that.. there are more than one or two people on this forum that have had bad experiences with him...including me. You did good to stay away... count your blessings.
dragsterman Mar 19th, 06, 03:16 AM Man, that sucks. A big dollar car that's a pile. These sellers are not that stupid. You don't get these cars for free. They know what they are selling. Man, I would have been pi$$ed off. How can someone like that sleep at night. It's not something someone is going to blow off when they get the car. It's $60k! I know many people that would make that journey for that kind of cash. Good thing you made it before that happened. I saw that car on EBay and was wondering why it was so high with the pics he had. It seems the cars are so popular these days, people take big chances just to get the one they want. But you can't trust much of anything. It's sad. I remember one car I bought with a " rebuilt motor " . My own stupidity, I never tried to start the car before I bought it and when I did, the motor was locked up! Must have been rebuilt with a welder? What can you do? I can't believe they ever put brown on a 69 Camaro, my last choice, JMO.
ssdanny69 Mar 19th, 06, 08:22 AM It's all about $ and the '69 Z28's are bringing tons of it. I believe that most people are honest but I also have to say that in most cases, based on my personal experiences, most sellers do not give an accurate description of the car they are selling. Taking this into consideration, I approach it in a sense that if they say a car is an "8" of of a "10." I can expect it to be no more than a "7" when and if I do make the trip. Ebay is not a good place to buy a car but when the "pickins are slim", what other choice is there? Buyer Beware is my golden rule.
Gary L Mar 19th, 06, 09:00 AM Can you imagine the fat hog the seller thought he cut...I hope he didn't spend the money !
He still may if the seller uses sceond chance offer. Only $100 difference.
thorpe67RS Mar 19th, 06, 09:20 AM I have a feeling the second place buyer (renee) was a decoy to keep the car from selling for too little. As far as the guy and place your talking about in EA, NY i had no idea there were some potential issues there. Ive been to that place, taken a tour, seen their cars, etc.. Interesting.
ssdanny69 Mar 19th, 06, 10:17 AM He's going to relist the car for sale and disclose the numbers issue. It still needs paint and body work. Just my opinion, the "other" buyer is a shiller.
kz1000ltd Mar 19th, 06, 10:24 AM So what's it worth in it's current condition? 30K?
Gary L Mar 19th, 06, 10:40 AM ...... Just my opinion, the "other" buyer is a shiller.
Sure looks like it with the other non-car junk he buys.
thorpe67RS Mar 19th, 06, 06:51 PM Was doing some browsing thru the classified section looking at cars. Came across the ad for this car again and happened to notice that he has it listed as "Excellent Condition" in the ad.
ssdanny69 Mar 20th, 06, 06:05 PM He now has the car listed on www.cars-on-line.com
He changed the wording but still is not telling the truth and is hoping for someone who doesn't know about cars to buy it. He dropped the price down to $50K
kz1000ltd Mar 20th, 06, 07:03 PM
ssdanny69 Mar 20th, 06, 07:13 PM John,
can you and the family join us this Saturday for my b-day celebration at Tokyo One in Addison? Great buffet but it's pricey. Shushi, steaks, Japanese food etc...
kz1000ltd Mar 20th, 06, 07:16 PM Yes, but only if you and your's come to Chuck E. Cheese for Rachel's birthday in May! Steaks? Buffet? Nuff said, I'm there!!!!
ssdanny69 Mar 20th, 06, 07:24 PM Certainly. 6:30 @ Tokyo One in Addison - Corner of Midway & Beltline, to the right. Fair warning - adults are $25.00 per person. Don't embarrase me with your "fake cockroach" skip the check ploy.
kz1000ltd Mar 20th, 06, 07:31 PM That's funny, fake cockroach, LOL!!! 25 bucks for adults? How much for you, 25 cents? :D:D:D:D You sure it's not going to turn out like the Chinese buffet we went to a few weeks ago? You remember, the owner came out of the kitchen with a meat cleaver, he was hacked at you!!!! His voice is still ringing in my hears, "You go now! You be here 4 hour!!!!"
ssdanny69 Mar 20th, 06, 07:36 PM Might want to call and see what they have that you can eat. You need to expose your taste buds to ethnic foods. Speaking of, remember the first time you tried Indian Curry? Your white pants turned into khakis.
kz1000ltd Mar 20th, 06, 07:56 PM Yes, and that's the last time I let your sister cook for me! Can you believe she made me eat this crap?
http://www.BartonekDragRacing.com/webfilez/curry1.jpg
What do you think was worse, my khakis, or the mess you made in your drawers when you first laid eyes on the burnished brown Z/28! What a turd!!!
ssdanny69 Mar 20th, 06, 07:58 PM Probably when I saw the brown Z28. People suck. Don't ask the Sushi Chef if he can make you a pizza or burger!
ssdanny69 Apr 29th, 06, 10:14 PM It's back on this website for sale. Price keeps dropping like a rock.
kz1000ltd Apr 30th, 06, 05:39 AM I can't wait to hear him defend himself, if he's found this site, he's found your response to his for sale ad!!! This should get good !!!!!!!
ssdanny69 Apr 30th, 06, 09:13 AM The car was advertised here before. The original asking price was for $65K.
thorpe67RS Apr 30th, 06, 10:55 AM From $65,000 down to $39,000  Imagine how he was licking his chops when he thought you were flying in to buy it for 60k. Heres the question now...Danny...is it worth $39k?
ssdanny69 Apr 30th, 06, 06:23 PM I don't want to slam Jim or his car, but in my opinion, the car is worth no more than $25K. Make no mistake, I tried to get as much information on the car before I made the trip from Texas to Florida to inspect the car. He was tight-lipped and kept telling me to call Bob Harris, the Camaro guru.
Jim is a very shrewd individual and is trying to walk on both sides of the fence. He's good at choosing the correct words to "imply" things. At the end of the day - call Bob Harris, because the seller is no expert!
kz1000ltd Apr 30th, 06, 06:57 PM The seller made the mistake of slamming Danny and I had to step in and set things straight. Nobody makes fun of Danny but ME!!! Great reading in the classified section, will most certainly get better as the night goes on!!!!!!!!
ssdanny69 Apr 30th, 06, 07:19 PM Anyone else who had inspected the car would have been very mad and probably lwould have lost it. I was there doing my job to look at the car for my boss. When people resort to personal attacks, it simply tells me that they're desperate. Not once did I personally attack the guy. The car is what it is and when the next person inspects it, he or she will know what I'm talking about.
Would a car in excellent condition be heavily undercoated, need to be repainted and have tons of bondo? I don't think so. I'm irritated because he's still not being honest about the car. I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with the guy because it's all going to be for nothing.
He should count his blessings because if someone had bought the car sight unseen, based on his description, there would be a major lawsuit. I ask the simple question, why has he still not been able to sell the car, even after dropping the price over and over again?
Stop the madness.
kz1000ltd Apr 30th, 06, 07:34 PM Stop the insanity, the ad has been pulled! :D:D:D:D:D
ssdanny69 Apr 30th, 06, 08:16 PM KZ - I hear that you will be in the Dallas Morning News sson, with a pic of your car. Killer ride!
kz1000ltd Apr 30th, 06, 09:24 PM You never know, she said she was a "free lance" photographer, I'm not too sure the DMN is going to buy into the whole "fat muscle car owners" thing, kind of an oxymoron, don't you think.......:)
ChevyThunder Feb 20th, 07, 05:41 PM Danny... is this the same car discussed here that you bought on ebay.. inspected in Florida with.. I believe with a letter from Bob Harris..... that turned out to not be "all that " ? If so it is back with Bob Harris...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevr...QQcmdZViewItem (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet-Camaro-1969-Camaro-Z28-DZ-302-X77-Canada-factory-documentation_W0QQitemZ330089446273QQihZ014QQcateg oryZ6161QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
kz1000ltd Feb 20th, 07, 05:45 PM I bet that's the same car! No wonder it's so "cheap" at 45K!!!!!
thorpe67RS Feb 20th, 07, 05:52 PM Man thats funny..i saw this car earlier in the month i believe...and wondered if it was the same car as well.
ChevyThunder Feb 20th, 07, 06:03 PM Well I am sure if Bob Harris is happy getting 45K for the car then he must have paid coniderably less IMHO... plus a letter from Bob Harris was part of the heavy wieght pulling documentation the guy was trying to use to add value to the car when Danny was the high bidder months back.
ssdanny69 Mar 1st, 07, 05:35 PM All - to simply put it, I wasted my time and expense money. I was the winning bidder at $68K if memory serves me correct when the car was listed on Ebay. The tag looked okay but nothing on the car was matching #'s. I don't want to slam the guy or his car but in a nutshell the car is not worth a penny over $25K in my opinion. It will need a complete restoration to include paint and bodywork.

Youve seen the car in person so i believe you when you say its not worth a penny over 25k. But at current bid of 41k someone is either getting way to caught up in the Z factor or has no idea what the car looks like in person.
ssdanny69 Mar 2nd, 07, 05:53 PM There was a shill bidder the first time around, trust me. I suspect the same on the latest auction. There are much nicer non-matching Z's out there in the $40's. Anyone who knows cars and sees this one is person will be extremely upset because the seller does not give an accurate description of the overall condition. I guess some will argue that one man's opinion varies from the next but crap is still crap. Sorry, I'm getting all "puffy" from old wounds being reopened :-)

I agree with everything Danny has to say. However, his puffiness is solely due to the fact that he's usually full of shiite.........:D:D:D
