I feel like all I ever do is ask question here, but...

I have a brand new fast burn 385. Need to get the big, fat automoter oil pressure sending unit in beside the distributor. I can't put a 90 to the front becuase it hits the intake, it will no screw striaght in becuase of the intake, and I can't use a couple fittings to make it taller because it hits the distributor. So where in the world will it go? Will it hit the firewall if I 90 it toward the rear of the car?

not a problem, grasshopper...
Whatcha need is a lil altitude before you turn. You need a combination of fittings not just one. The pic below shows my "arrangement." This partucular conglomeration of Ace Hardware goodies allows installation of both the original idiot light sender and the autometer monster. I't's infinitely adjustable and easiliy clears the distributor, intake & firewall.
Basically used a 2" pipe nipple to get it up clear of the manifold. If you only need the one sender then just screw a 45 or 90 onto that.

Or you can use a mechanical OP guage which only has a small fitting instead of the juice can.

Or you can attach the sender to a length braided line and the mount sender whereever. I have a set like Jims...a real beauty!

Jim,

Looks cool. thanks for the idea. I was worried that taking it that high might cause the long pipe nipple to fail over time. That seems like a real top heavy set-up on just that brass 1/8 nipple. Any problems?

I've had it like that for 2 years now, no problems at all

FWIW, I did have a brass fitting fail. Went to iron/steel fitting with no issues so far.

isn't there an oil fitting over the oil filter and near the timing cover??? just find a differnet place to get the oil pressure from. That jigsawed together setup looks hokey

"hokey"??
With the motor in you can't even see it... regardless, it works.

'friad we can't all build $100k cars with custom fabbed everything... there is room for those of us with a budget, right?

yeah, but there is just as cost effective ways of doing it cleaner, not to pick it apart or say its bad advice, but that looks like something in the wall behind my shower :)
BTW who here has a 100K custom everything car? I wanna see!

Jim, thanks

I used a 2 inch nipple than 90 off of that. Pointed it to the front of the car with no problems.

I have an easier option than all of these ... don't use the 90 elbow use a 45 they will give you enough room to spin it on beside the intake thats what i did with my ol machine works wonderfull and looks great I also added a short extension to it now if i ever need to change it ... i would bet i could do it in about 5 minutes with my eyes closed :)

Yes, there is an Oil Galley machining port just above the filter location that can be used to monitor oil pressure.
It is the oil pressure directly from the oil filter, the port next to the distributor (and the one in front) are also after the filter but, because it's so close to the pump outlet it can cause gauge flutter if larger gauge feed tubing (greater than 1/8" or so) is used.
It is/was fairly common to use this tap on marine engines.

And I think Jody's Camaro may be near this fiqure ;)

A quick look-through of that site will show you a few others like Tyler's...

That's tylers car, and itsa sweety.
There are MANY MANY really nice rides hanging out on lat-g. The "inner-circle" tends to lean toward twin turbo jobs with 1k+ HP...I enjoy reading there once ina while to see how the other half lives. Post there sometimes, too. It's a great group of people (for high rollers anyway hehe) Our own Jody (camcojb) is one of the Admins.

Anyone wants to see some truly gorgeous rides, start here: http://www.lateral-g.net/members/

As for Jody not having a Camaro, just because he doesn't have one now don't mean he never did. http://www.camcojb.com

So this Tyler guy owns that silver camaro. Cool! that thing looks really nice. I'll have to check out that inner circle, I probably don't have enough money or leghumping skills to get in though :)

as for my way to get both those senders on, no doubt it does look like it was done by a "plumber" rather than a car crafter, but it works for me. I wanted to keep both the senders, wanted them on the back of the engine, where the wires are. There are ZERO wires or unrequired hoses on top of my motor. The port above the oil filter would have maybe been workable for me, but That giant sender would probably foul on the headers.

I hate how big they make those senders. Always gets in the way

'that' silver Camaro is owned by 'clill' - you could do a 'search' on here for "Mule" - http://www.camaros.net/forums/search.php?searchid=383286
I didn't know Jody had finished his present Camaro project...

Jody sold the Camaro, unfinished, never did tell me why...
As for "Clill", another high roller, but one of our own, and too cool for sure. Not long ago, one of his cars showed up in a post here, believe the topic was something along the lines of "how much motor is too much?" Car in question is a 57 chevy... with a V12 Allison out of a P%! Mustang!

Sorry - didn't know Jody sold it.

Charlie's car is a 55 and it is a Roll Royce (Packard) Merlin engine.

One BIG HONKIN MOTOR!

Cody, are you a member at Lat-G? 'IF not, join up and check em out. They are a great group (not as nice as us,. of course, but plenty cool) Many of them are also members here. Look thru the members rides and project progress sections, you'll see a ton of cars you'll recognize from magazine features, too.

That BADDAZZ "low budget" bird of your will fit right in, too.
