: Help needed, vigilites, anybody has them on an original car?
L48Z28 Mar 15th, 06, 07:23 AM Hi.
Just bought vigilites on ebay, front 68 Camaro, part# 8917239. The problem is that if I mount them the 9.10 inches behind the front of the hood-line as stated in the Assembly Manual U46, the cables to the parking lamps (non-RS) are not long enough. In the accessories catalog, it looks like they're mounted 3-4" further to the front, which would solve the issue.
 Are they wrong for my car? Or is this because the vigilites are dealer installed (?), so I can ignore the Assembly Manual?
What I'd really like is a picture of a 68 non-RS with these mounted originally, before I drill in my front fenders...
KevinK7 Mar 15th, 06, 08:27 AM ...I've got them on an RS car, ...and I know you have a NON-RS, ...but since they are listed in the assembly manual, ...I believe they would be "factory" installed equipment.
They were used on many different cars (ie. non-Camaro) so there are probably different length optic cables that came with the fender indicators/bezels.
...consider this as well, ...your saying the cables you have won't reach the standard grill parking lamps. The RS lamps are farther away.
...the net (my guess), the set you have may not be for Camaro. I would install the bezels as per assembly manual, (...re-double check the length (are you absolutely sure they are too short?)...and/or you may need to get longer optic cables to connect to lamps.

That solves that I can get them to work. But are they right for my car, and does anyone have pictures of original mounting, I've never seen a Camaro with vigilites?
69ss350 Mar 15th, 06, 10:24 AM If you get new cables made, make sure that you get the cabling that is larger in diameter.
On my original '69 system, I have smaller diameter cables that monitor the headlamps and rear tailights.
The front parking lamps have larger diameter cabling, I guess to handle the abuse it will take from being more exposed to the elements.
It is a neat option.....
Good luck...

L48Z28 Mar 16th, 06, 12:35 AM Thanks for the picture. Beautiful car. And were the vigilites mounted there originally, do you know?
rs1968ss Mar 21st, 06, 06:44 AM Yes. They are original to the car.
