Hi,

My clutch is shaking the car when disengaging, on starts. To avoid this I need to make it slip at 2000 rpm before starting.

So it time for a new one I guess.

Also my flywheel looks bad because of all the starter problems I had and the teeth are in bad shape, I 'll get a new one as well.

My motor is a F0904HC, early 327 block with vortec heads, HE268 cam (218°@0,050), with 320 HP and good torque. Can you tell me the flywheel (number of teeth) and clutch I need?
I have a Muncie 21 behind.

Unfortunatly the Tremec is still expensive otherwise I would buy one...

Your 327 will have a 153 tooth flywheel and 10.5" clutch (10 spline) Verify this by eyeballing a starter with 1 bolt longer than the other, bolts straight across the car.

Unless you want a blow proof flywheel,, you can resurface cleanup on facing and drop a new ring gear from parts stores. Easy.. Dont forget to put a new t/o bearing ..

Thanks.
Yes my starter has 2 bolts from different lenghts, one short & one long.
For the flywheel this is a good think to only drop a new ring gear... Is the ring gear easy disassembled? Are all 153 teeth ring gear going to bolt on?

For the clutch I 've seen pretty many brands. Which should I take? I 'm searching for a reliably one, but I don't want to race the car and I 'd like a softer clutch because the current I have is very hard to engage.

for a basic oem style clutch, the Zoom kit sold by Summit is good. You get the pressure plate, disk, throwout bearing and an alignment tool all in one box, cheap.

You are talking about Zoom MU Series Clutches for 95 $ ? , that's pretty cheap yes ;-)

And what is the 327 input spline number 10 or 26 ?

And what about the ring gear set?

thanks

If your trans is original, it will be a 10 spline. Only the newest muncies used the 26.

The ring gear is pressed onto the flywheel. It would be a machine shop job to change it. Not sure where to get a replacement ring gear but someone will chime in.

By the time you pay the machine shop to resurface it, install the new ring gear, and the ring gear itself, you might as well just buy a new flywheel.

The ring gear is easy to change yourself. Remove the old gear with a hammer and a punch. Heat up the new ring gear in your oven set as high as it will go (400˚-450˚) for about 20 minutes. It’s best to do this when your wife is not home. This will expand the gear and it will drop on the flywheel. As it cools it will tighten up.

While you are at it,, replace the starter drive and use the little measuring rods to properly set depth of the starter drive,,, there are starter shims for this...Get it right so you dont have to do this again. If you have a mini hi torque starter, the process is differant. The orginal package instruction should have included some differant type shims.

Hi, before I order I'd like to be sure we speak about the same MU zoom kit and not the competition zoom kit.

Thanks.
