somebody please tell me that they agree with me when i say that i overreved my engine and have a tapping and i believe it is a lifter. my buddy seems to think it is a rod bearing, but i have eagle h-beam connecting rods, i hope that the hydrualic lifter would float before i spun a rod bearing. anyone agree disagree? just put the motor in, has less than 1000 miles and i paid 5000.00 for it.

rather than trying to troubleshoot a noise in a text box, get the valve covers off, inspect the valvetrain, and run the lifter adjustments. Make sure all the rockers/pushrods are still attached, check the underside of the valve covers for any sign of contact, and do a valve adjustment with the engine running.

FYI, valvetrain noise is pretty much a constant tap tap tap. Rod knock is much louder and deeper, and is loudest when the engine is "unloaded" If you rev the engine, a rod will get loudest as the rpm peaks and starts to fall.

"rather than trying to troubleshoot a noise in a text box..."

Ha! I hate my job and that brightened my morning.

With only 1000 miles I would suspect a flat cam lobe assuming it's not a roller. Exhaust leak is a suspect too.

Hope it is nothing major!!!

Indeeed, surprised I didn't think of that one! Sometimes a header leak can sounds EXACTLY like a really ugly mechanical noise!
