I built my 67 camaro and now comes the time to insure it. I REALLY want to run it at the track (maybe once or twice a year). I live less than 15 minutes away from one. I also want to be able to drive it to work a few times a month (nice weather, etc.)
I may put a cage in and i am almost certain that i will put a nitrous system in it.
any thoughts?
should i just forget about taking it to the track?

I use Parish Heacock, www.parishheacock.com, My policy allows me to race my cars, and even covers them in the pits, stagging lanes, etc, coverage stops though the minute the tire touchs the racing surface, and coverage starts back once back to the pits. However, driving to work is not permited, but you may just have to assume that risk.
My contact there is a man named Kim. Tell him Frank from Prodigy Customs told you to call and I am sure that and a buck won't buy coffee.

Buy a regular policy from any good insurer and have the mileage limited to say 3000 a year. You will covered at the track until you start racing. You should be able to install the cage with no problem from the insurance co, but I would pass on the Nitro, at least until the policy is in force!! If you got any questions kick me a message. I work as an auto appraiser for a NE insurance co. Phil

prodigycustoms: that’s almost what I am looking for. I want to be able to drive once and while to work w/o mileage limitations. Also, that insurance co. does not insure in NJ!! just my luck
What do you mean by assume that risk? PM me if you don’t want to share.
If I get insurance that says that they don’t allow me to race/take to work and I still go does that mean I am uninsured for the time that I am there?
I really want to take it to work a few times a month, take to cruz’s, take out in nice weather, take to track just to see what it will run, etc.

How safe is parking at your work? For me, it is real safe seeing as I have my own shop. If you are in a city parking lot, you assume a lot of risk. If you can park it outside your window, very little risk. I don;t think any insirabce company is doing random ride bys to see if you drove your car to work. So if there is little chance of problem, no harm, no foul.
The racing was more important to me as i am in a much less controlled enviroment then my shop. And you can run it on nitromethane if you want to, roll bar, no problem, Wheelie bars, no biggie!
