Is that identical to the template being passed around?

Jody

JimM
Mar 20th, 06, 09:17 PM
not identical, the template covered the entire top of the rad support, this one just looks like it covers the ends where the ht adjusters are. Can't wait to see if it flops around in the middle, hope not.

Jody, go out and mess up your garage, it's too clean. Maybe that beater 'velle dripped some oil by now? I'll needa pic of that!

Jim, you need to see the second shop. That's the one I normally don't work in so it stays pretty clean. The bigger shop is messed up, just finished thrashing on the twin turbo GTO.

italiano362
Mar 20th, 06, 11:14 PM
I bought one after the second post on this thread. I guess for 55.00 I will take the gamble on the quality. I can always get it polished or even painted if it somehow lacks in finish quality. I think it is a pretty neat idea and really completes the engine bay. I always thought it was lacking in that area.

Hi Guys! I'm the Closeout panel guy. To put your minds at ease, I made this design myself off of not only my Camaro but cars in our club. www.bakersfieldcamaros.com (http://www.bakersfieldcamaros.com) The metal is .060 aluminum CNC machined on my mill table. They are raw so that you can paint, polish, brush etc. I send them with a protective paper so they aren't all beat up by the time you install. I'm sure some tweaking will be necessary because of the way our cars are made no exact fit is possible. BUT I haven't had to tweak one yet. We are exploring other versions of this like personalizing with car names, club names, cubic inches. Anodizing and some other finishes STAY TUNED! Other car panels will be coming along with other products. IF you have some needs let me know!

Give me an idea of what you want, how big etc I'll try to give you a price. I just did a pair of crossed flags to match Billet Specialties valve covers. Cost him an extra $50 cuz it takes a long time to clean out all those little squares. If you have art work saved as a .dxf file, it's faster and probably cheaper because I don't have to take time to clean up a scan.

Besides getting the worst case of the flu I think I've ever had, the traffic was a friggin' nightmare, and Dallas traffic ain't exactly good. Very little support, but I don't really think any is needed, the bolts on the outside kind of pull it up a little on the outside.........You could probably fashion a support bracket and use the front bolts there on the latch, if you're really concerned about it. Maybe after it's been there a while it might start to droop, then it would be an issue........KZ

All is not lost, rocket!

When I had my car apart last year, both of mine snapped off too. The ends of the bolts were totally rusted solid into the nut welded into the rad support. I started with a small drill and worked my way up to the correct size, then ran a tap thru em. Worked like a dream, I think that rust is stronger than the original steel!

Also, if the rubber parts are in good shape, what you get when you order these things from a repro house is the rubbers, and 2 countersunck head straight slot machine screws. Save some time and money and get the machine screws at the hardware store when you buy the tap and the drill, just pop your rubbers on em!

Thanks for the advice. I have also noticed a lot of time the replacement hardware you buy is the same stuff you can get at the local hardware stor for a fraction of the cost. Case in point was the bolts for the gas tank straps. I ordered them as part of larger order for like $8, ended up gettting the dame thing locally for $2.

Where did you get your fan shroud.

JimM
Apr 1st, 06, 05:58 AM
It was made by Wade at Mahaffey motorsports in Maryland. Another forum member put me onto him last year. Custom ones ran around $250, but he has patterns for 67-69 SBC's with 21" radiators so should price those under $200. He made 2 for us last year, for my 68, and for Steve "jackstands" Jack's" 69. The 69 one is 1" shorter because of the long water pump. He also does custom race car tin and shrouds to work with electric fans. His website is http://www.mahaffeymotorsports.com

I think with long enough extentions and someone on top,I can probably reach them from underneath...at least I think I can.

Battery and washer bottle are both out of the car...but access is still restricted.

Could access them by removing the headlamps but I'd rather avoid that whole mess if I can.

Speaking of keeping things cool:

Has anyone checked out the bottom close-out panel that Derel offers...?
I bought one ($150+$15 shipping) and mounted it and it looks real sharp.Keeps the engine bay real clean and seals against the radiator for good airflow.Only downside I can think of is you can't jack up the car from the front anymore because the cover is sort of in the way there.Doesn't affect me much because my car is so low,I have to go in from the sides anyway.

Real nice piece and it makes a nice addition to the upper panel...

Derel installed a lower close-out panel on my Camaro last week. I like it because it helps keep the engine bay free of dust and bugs. It also seems to alter the air flow under the car to stop the front from lifting up when cruzing. I have the upper-close panel and between the two the car runs a little cooler. It also adds a finishing touch to the underside.

Hi, Does Anyone Know Where The Template Is At Or Who Has It? There Was A List And My Name Was On It But It Seems Nobody Knows Where Its At. Its A Shame That It Seems To Be Lost Or That Members Hang On To It And Do Not Forward It. I Bet Who Ever Has It Was Glad To Get It, But How About The Rest Of Us? You Know The Person That Sent It Out In The Beginning Was Trying To Help Out All Of Us!!! So Who Ever Has It, Please, Please Pass It On And Help The Rest Of Us Out. Thanks Gary J.

This thread is not talking about the same template as you are. This one was about a panel that was for sale on ebay. The other one has the list of names, and currently I have the template. I'm going to be sending it out to the next in line this weekend. Here's the thread you're thinking of:
