I've put off my wheel order until 12 pm...because I can't make up my mind.
Here's my quick question...I would appreciate any and all comments:
I have a '69 Camaro and need to know if I can run a 17x8" (5" b/s) all around.
235/45 & 255/45 tires.
Would really appreciate any responses guys!
Regards,
John

Better with 4 3/4" b/s all around then...?

well, from what i have gathered in my notes, either 5" or 4 3/4" have worked for others here
i would go with 5" just to be sure that i dont rub on the fender lip, if you dont mind the chance of the fronts rubbing at or near full lock
and then if you need to later you could add a 1/4" spacer to get to the 4 3/4" backspacing
so i would choose 5" bs

Your advice is good (I was thinking along those same line of being able to add a 1/4" spacer on a 5 b/s wheel if needed)...currently I have a 3 3/4" b/s on a 7" wheel and I have no outer fender clearance issues...
...so if I go to a 8" wheel and pick up an additional 1" b/s ( 4 3/4"),my wheel should be in basically the same exact position.
I don't think I can swing a 5 b/s on my car being as low as it is.

I have 245/50-16's with American Racing Torq-Thrust D's on my '69 and they rub when the suspension is compressed. If I remember correctly these wheels have a 4" BS. If they were tucked under another 3/4" to 1" (as with your 4 3/4" or 5" choices) they would clear easily. Also, when I had IROC wheels on the car (4 3/4" BS?) I could run 255 tires w/o rubbing. Good luck.

Kevin,
I went with the following set-up which I think will be just about perfect:
8's (4 3/4" b/s) all around
235/45 & 255/45's
I have a set of gray-spoke 18" TT II's (4" b/s) on my '70 Chevelle I bought from a friend who mistakenly ordered these thinking they would work on his '69 Camaro. They work on my car but and extra 1/2"-3/4" b/s would have made them even better...but then he wouldn't have sold them to me,huh?
Would your problem be eliminated Kevin if you switched to a 45-series tire?
